Project Runway 4: Season Finale – Part Two
Recap by Jacob D.
March 6, 2008
Previously on Project Runway:
15 designers were selected to take part in the fourth season of Bravo's smash reality show, "Project Runway." A lot of diverse challenges were presented to the designers such as making an outfit on a budget of $15, transforming outdated trends into hot new commodities, designing clothes for women who recently lost a lot of weight, making outfits out of candy products, designing prom gowns, making avant-garde gowns, wrestling costumes, and in the last challenge, using art to inspire their creations. Perhaps the most daunting task though was making men's wear, something Project Runway has never done before, for sports legend Tiki Barber.
Of course, to get to the winner, 12 eliminations have to take place first. One by one the designers fell, although some unique cases came up this season. In episode four, Chris was eliminated, but was brought back into the competition when Jack left in episode five for health reasons. Also, when it came down to the last challenge and five designers vying for three spots at Olympus Fashion Week, the judges put two through and eliminated one, but were deadlocked on the last two designers. These two, Rami and Chris, were both allowed to design a collection on Bravo's dime, but when they got back to New York, they would show their three strongest pieces and one would given the last spot in the final three while the other would be eliminated. In the end, Chris got the axe and Rami is our last finalist. Now the final three must prepare to show at Bryant Park. Who will win it all? Will it be master technician Rami? Will it be bold femme fatale Jillian? Maybe it will be young prodig! y Christian? Let's find out.
There are just three days left until the final fashion shows and Christian is nervous while Rami is happy to be in the final three. The designers head to their workroom and Christian seems to be sizing Jillian and Rami up. Rami thinks Christian is surprised at what he is capable of and Christian tells us that it matters to him what Jillian and Rami think of his work. He wants them to think he is a strong competitor.
Tim comes into the workroom and stops by Jillian's station first. She shows Tim a new piece she made since he visited her home and Tim worries that while the skirt would fit with her collection, the knit top may not. Rami is next and he tells Tim that he toned down certain pieces. Tim says his work is phenomenal and admires a layered mosaic top which Rami says goes with one of his dresses. Rami feels a certain confidence now that he knows Tim loves his collection.
Tim moves on to Christian and Christian admits that he didn't change much after Tim left. Tim looks at a couple of pieces and wonders aloud if Christian's collection is over-designed. He also zeroes in on Christian's nervousness, wondering where the "cocky confident Christian" went. Christian is a bundle of nerves and tells us that Jillian is innovative and cool and Rami is a great designer. He's wondering how he can compete with that. I don't know what happened, but I like this version of Christian. I don't want him to be "wimpy Christian," but I do like seeing some humility, given how arrogant he's been in the past.
The designers later move on to a model casting. Christian says he needs strong, confident girls and Jillian tells us that since this is his first time doing this, she's a bit overwhelmed. She can't make quick decisions and seems to love all of the models. Christian, knowing that model selection is important in showing your work, says he is looking for, "edgy, dark skinned, fierce tallness, and a walk for days." |
