Project Runway 4: An Arrogant Self-Involved Jerk Takes A Fall
Scoreboard by Jacbo D.
November 27, 2008

This week's episode of Project Runway saw the designers making outfits for Sarah Jessica Parker. While they weren't literally making outfits for her, they pitched ideas for a two piece look that would fit in with her "Bitten" fashion line. Sarah picked the seven best designs and the contestants worked in pairs from there.

Ricky felt he had to prove himself while Christian felt he had to prove nothing and showed his arrogant, self-involved side.

At the runway judging, Victorya turned in another well received design and Elisa bounced back from her bottom two placement in the first challenge.

Meanwhile, Marion turned in a homely design and Christian took a dive from his previous top two placement. Victorya won the challenge and Elisa was in, leaving Christian and Marion in the bottom two.

In the end, Marion was the second designer to be eliminated. Thirteen designers are left and next week's episode is gearing up to show us how they deal with the "toughest challenge ever."

Who will falter and who will shine?

Victorya
Current Ranking: 1 - Previous Ranking: 3

While Victorya was not the only member of last week's bottom and top group to show up at runway judging again this week, she was the only one to appear in the top group both times. Not only that, but she won this week's challenge with another simple flirty design with cute embellishment, this time a vest instead of a metallic brocade. Victorya has shown she can take simple designs and make them interesting and is off to a great start so far. Now let's see what else she can do.
Kevin
Current Ranking: 2 - Previous Ranking: 4

Kevin moves up by virtue of being paired with Victorya, the winning designer, this week. My man is still in it and I'm just waiting for that moment when he announces himself as a strong design force and presence.
Rami
Current Ranking: 3 - Previous Ranking: 1

Though his design didn't end up in the top group this week at judging, I still think Rami is showing himself as a strong designer and a contender for winning this season. He won the first challenge and this week, Sarah Jessica loved his sketches and picked him as a team leader. A fine start so far.
Chris
Current Ranking: 4 - Previous Ranking: 5

Chris moves up by default. He was not a feature player this episode and his design with Kit landed in the middle of the pack at judging.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jillian
Current Ranking: 5 - Previous Ranking: 6

Jillian moves up by default. She was not a feature player this episode and her design with Rami landed in the middle of the pack at judging.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Christian
Current Ranking: 6 - Previous Ranking: 2

As mentioned in my article, I was willing to give Christian a pass last week, but this week he bugged me. He is really showing himself to be an arrogant, self-involved jerk. He once again blew off Tim's advice and voiced his opinion all throughout the episode that his design was perfect. When the judges gave him harsh critiques, he all but ignored them and asked for Sarah Jessica's opinion. When she came down on it too, I would hope that'd be a lesson to Christian, but I'm not so sure.

I think Christian's problem is two-fold: he is smart, but not wise and he believes his own hype. I've no doubt that he has accomplished much in his short 21 years of life and do believe he is a smart kid, but he does not know how to make his intelligence work both for him and the world around him. That's what wisdom is, in my opinion. He is definitely the type, as I mentioned of Bianca in my recap for Top Model 9 this week, that believes once he turns a certain age, he feels he is an adult and is now entitled to do whatever he feels no matter what anyone says, but that's not always the case in this world. I also believe that many people have told him how great and wonderful he is and I'm not saying he hasn't earned it. I'm just saying that he has maybe allowed it to give him a big ego and that is a turn-off. If he can give his attitude an adjustment and turn in stunning designs that work all around and not just in his own head, then he will be a force to be reckoned with. For now, he takes a fall in the rankings.
Sweet P
Current Ranking: 7 - Previous Ranking: 12

I still don't see Sweet P as a major contender, but I started to see her fashion design instincts come through this week. She was not thrilled about being stuck with Elisa in the challenge, but she soldiered on admirably. She also didn't just stand idly by and watch Elisa sink the both of them, but offered her input and gave some good advice to help Elisa fine tune her garment. Sweet P really helped Elisa land in the top group which meant good things for both of them. A fine showing for Sweet P.
Ricky
Current Ranking: 8 - Previous Ranking: 13

Ricky is turning into the resident crier this season. Once again, he cried about being on Project Runway and what it means to him and how he has to prove himself and this and that. I think Ricky is taking this way too seriously and worrying too much about what others think. Still, I have moved him up because he shows drive and determination and his outfit this week was an improvement over last week's.
Jack
Current Ranking: 9 - Previous Ranking: 7

Jack played the part of "invisible man" this week, so I have moved him down a bit.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elisa
Current Ranking: 10 - Previous Ranking: 14

Elisa made a nice comeback this week, popping up in the top group at judging instead of the bottom group. Though I thought her outfit this week was very similar to her outfit last week, the judges loved it and so Elisa's standing improves for now. However, I have only moved her up just a bit. A lot of what made the end result palatable was the input from Sweet P and Tim that helped guide her there. Had Elisa been left to her own devices again, who knows what else she would've done besides spitting on her dress?
Kit
Current Ranking: 11 - Previous Ranking: 10

Kit was pretty much invisible this week. Sarah Jessica Parker liked her design, but she ended up in the middle again at judging. An unimpressive start so far.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carmen
Current Ranking: 12 - Previous Ranking: 11

Like Steven, I moved Carmen down not so much because she was paired with one of the bottom designers, in this case Christian. I moved her down because of her track record so far. Her outfit last week was overlooked, although still hideous by my opinion, and her time in the spotlight this week found her on the short end of the stick. I know she has strong designs in her and I hope to see her rise in the coming weeks.
Steven
Current Ranking: 13 - Previous Ranking: 9

I didn't put Steven in last because he was paired with Marion, the losing designer. I put Steven in last because he does not stand out in any way. The design he pitched to Sarah Jessica Parker was much in the same vein of his first design and was just too simple to be interesting. Then, he never really spoke up about time constraints or gave any ideas to Marion about how to deal with the design. At this point, I feel Steven is just along for the ride and has done nothing to really prove he is a strong designer whatsoever.
