Project Runway: Two Words For Miss Kenley: Grow Up!
Episode 11 Recap by Jacob D
October 9, 2008
Previously on Project Runway, the designers got emotional when they realized the last challenge was upon them and they were so close to showing at Bryant Park. For that last challenge, Jerell, Kenley, Korto, and Leanne visited a botanical garden to draw their inspiration from nature. Kenley's attitude once again became a focal point for the episode when she continued to brush Tim aside and fought with the judges on the runway. When asked at the runway judging who they would like to see make it to Bryant Park, none of the other designs said they wanted Kenley to be there. The judges named Jerell the winner of the challenge, but felt it was too much of a close call to decide which three designers would show at Fashion Week. So, much like the Rami/Chris situation from last year, all four were allowed to go home and put together their own collections, but one of them will be eliminated when they get back to New York. Which three will make it? Will Kenley's attitude get her the boot? Will Jerell be eliminated despite winning the final challenge? Let's hope we get some answers in part one of this two part season finale.

Due to some cable issues at my place, I was unable to put together a recap or scoreboard for last week's episode. However, I did keep up with the goings-on by reading around the internet and I would like to address two points before we begin. The first is, of course, Kenley. All season, she has been toeing the line as the season's villain, but over the last couple of weeks, she seems to have dived headlong into being a rude, nasty brat. She is way too confident in her designs, will not listen to suggestions, talks down to people like Tim Gunn and the judges, gets incredibly defensive when listening to critiques, refuses to believe she is anything less than perfect, loves playing the victim by talking about how no one understands her and she's been through SOOOO much in her life, routinely trashes the other designers and their creations, and so on. It's like she's a frickin' female version of Santino from season two and I absolutely hated Santino. He's my least favorite male in all of reality TV and while Kenley isn't my least favorite female, she will definitely go down as one of my least favorite Project Runway contestants ever. Two words for Miss Kenley: Grow up!

Also, I don't like how the judges keep dancing around the task of selecting a final three from the final challenge. Including this season, the judges have not actually decided on a final three in the last three seasons. In season three, they let all four of the remaining designers go to Bryant Park. In season four, they sent two of the remaining five to Bryant Park, eliminated one, and left the other two in limbo until they got back to New York. This season, they still cannot decide on a final three and it's getting irritating. While it's becoming a problem that these judges can't make up their mind, what I think is most unfair is that even Jerell isn't safe. I mean, he won the last challenge, but even he has to face a possible elimination when the final four returns to New York. Come on judges, get your head back in the game!

Anyways, ranting aside, we begin the show down at the runway. Heidi reminds the final four that they will all be creating a collection of ten looks for Fashion Week. Really, only ten? Not 12, like every other season before this one? Awww. They will have a budget of $8,000 to work with, but only two months to create their full collections. Doesn't that seem a bit short? In past seasons, the designers had a full six months to work, or has this two month rule been in play for a while and I just never noticed? Heidi also reminds the designers that only three of them will actually be allowed to compete at Bryant Park. However, unlike last season when Rami and Chris' fates were determined by their own collections, the final three this time around will be decided by a last minute wedding dress challenge. That's right, on top of having two months to create full collections, they will also have to design a wedding gown. Can't we leave these folks alone? The dress must serve as a reflection of their own aesthetics and represent their respective lines in some way. The designers are obviously not happy. Tim joins Heidi on the runway to send the designers off with some encouraging words.
