Project Runway 5: The Top 9
Photo Scoreboard and Rankings by Jacob D.
As of August 21, 2008

On this week's episode of Project Runway, the designers were driven to frustration.

The lastest challenge saw the designers making outfit out of car parts, including seatbelts, seat covers, floor mats, headlights, and other such materials.

Most of the designers faced a lot of obstacles in this challenge. Particularly noteworthy were Keith still stinging from the judges' critiques of his outfit in the last challenge, Stella trying something new, and Kenley being the second designer to lose their original model when said model dropped out of the competition.

At the runway judging, Leanne won the challenge and Keith and Stella were left as the bottom two. Though both of their designs were boring, Keith was eliminated when his was also poorly crafted. Nine designers remain. Who will be cut next time?

Korto
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 1

Korto is really shaping up to be a frontrunner and quickly becoming the one I'm rooting for. She seems to have a strong confidence and steady hand in each of the challenges, finishing her designs to clean, chic effect and being ready to fight for her place in the competition. As it so happens, her place is on top at the moment. After this week's challenge, she has now been in the top group at the runway judgings four times, more than any other designer so far. There's just no reason to drop her out of first place yet.
Kenley
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 3

Kenley is a tough gal. She didn't land in the top group of this week's runway judging, but I moved her up because of the way she handled the challenge. I liked the touches she added, what with drawing on her white material to spice it up, and though she complained about losing Shannone as her model, she stayed on track and got her design finished without giving up. It's that tenacity that will serve her well on this show and in real life.
Terri
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 2

I moved Terri down a notch because I'm starting to notice a striking similarity in all of her designs. In four of the last five weeks, her designs have revolved around pants. There's no questioning Terri's street style, but how will she fare when faced with making couture? I want to see something new out of you, Terri!
Joe
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 4

Joe remains a steady competitor and so keeps his place at #4 on the scoreboard.
Leanne
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 6

Leanne seems to be falling into her groove. After suffering a blow to her confidence when she fell into the bottom two during the runway judging in the second challenge, she has quietly built herself back up. She placed in the top group in the third challenge, escaped the judges' critical eyes in most challenges, and finally won a challenge this week. You're on the right track Leanne so just remain focused.
Suede
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 5

Suede has fallen into the middle group and his win in the second challenge is the only time he has ever appeared in any of the groups, top or bottom, at the runway judgings. Sure, the most important thing is that he's not eliminated because it means more chances for him to crank out designs. However, I think he needs to do something that grabs the judges' attention soon.
Jerell
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 10

Once again, Jerell is up and down from week to week. Jerell is always consistent in personality and pizzazz and it worked for him this week with his futuristic design. Now if we could just see some more consistency in his designs and track record, he'd be ranked higher.
Blayne
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 7

Out of everyone left, Blayne is the only designer who has never shown up in the top group at the runway judgings. This week, he fell into the bottom group for the second time and so remains low on the scoreboard.
Stella
Current Ranking: 9         Previous Ranking: 9

Stella wanted to try something new this week, but the end product seemed mismatched and wasn't particularly inspiring. As a result, she landed in the bottom two for the second time. I'm hoping this doesn't discourage her from branching out again.
