Project Runway: Greece is the Word
Recap by Romantic Rose
October 23, 2009
On last night’s Project Runway, the seven remaining designers seem to feel increasing pressure now that they’re only a few challenges away from Bryant Park. Gordana says she’s just happy she’s still in the competition. Carol Hannah misses Shirin. Nicolas says he has to show who he is.

It’s all about me, me, me. Christopher is proud to be one of the top seven. He thinks he’s the underdog because of his lack of fashion education.

When the designers meet Heidi on the runway, she tells them Tim will take them to Rodeo Dr. to meet a designer known world-wide. Logan thinks it means they’ll design something high-end. The designer turns out to be Michael Kors, who gives them the challenge: create a look that embodies a specific locale. He gives them choices of some of the locations that have inspired him over the years.

Since Carol Hannah won the last challenge, she gets first choice and takes Palm Beach. Nicolas chooses Greece. Althea gets St. Tropez. Irina wants Aspen, since she says fur and outerwear are her specialties. Christopher takes Santa Fe, and Logan, always the last to choose, is left with Hollywood. The designers have a budget of $150 and one day to complete the look.

Carol Hannah plans a relaxed but put-together look but wishes she had more fabric. Althea is thinking yachts and parties but also an old fishing town. Gordana is inspired by Park Avenue and plans to create a look for a sophisticated, independent woman and spends most of her budget on jewels. Irina says $150 is not enough for a winter look. Logan is planning a Bohemian, comfortable look with skinny jeans. Irina decides to do pants, a cowl-neck sweater, and a fur vest. Nicolas is thinking of a Greek tomboy.

As the designers work, Irina comments that everyone else spends time cracking jokes and then wonders why they can’t finish. Nicolas says Michael will look at every detail. Christopher thinks the designers need to show their own point of view but also impress Michael. He wants to show a sophisticated, high style. Gordana likes her design. The dress will be simple, but the necklace will be fabulous.

Tim comes to the workroom to check on the designers’ progress, and he is concerned about the amount of time Gordana’s spending on the necklace. He tells her to start the dress and play with the necklace more later. Althea made everything in muslin first, since she wants the tailoring to be just right. Tim tells her to watch her proportions. Christopher is making a floaty little dress with a chiffon skirt and a belt with diamond cutouts. Tim says if the top and skirt aren’t fabulous, no one will care about the belt. Irina interviews that Christopher’s dress look like something an Amish girl would wear.

Carol Hannah shows Tim the dress she’s making and says she wanted a long, flowy print. He’s worried that it might be cliché. Nicolas is aiming for a fashion forward look with a white blouse and dark pants. Logan is thinking young Hollywood and plans an oversize sweater. Irina is doing tight, fitted pants, a giant cowl-neck sweater, and a faux fur vest to create a luxe look. Tim also tells her to watch proportion. Nicolas thinks Irina’s outfit is bordering on costumey.

When the models come in for their fitting, Logan finds out the pants are too small for Celine. Nicolas likes the way his pants fit Kojii, but he doesn’t have time to drape the blouse. Irina comments that the level of craftsmanship has not increased since the beginning of the competition.

Carol Hannah says Irina was obviously not there to make friends. Nicolas is struggling with the drape of his blouse, because he’s never worked with jersey, and he doesn’t know what to do, although he adds that if Christopher can send his look down the runway and not be eliminated, he doesn’t know what’s going to happen.

Christopher realizes his dress.....
