Pussycat Dolls Girlicious
Episode 1, It's A New Group February 19, 2008
Recap by Jenny Lane
This week, the CW has brought back the Pussycat Dolls for a second season. I have to admit that although I did watch last season’s show, I’m not sure what happened with the person that they chose, but maybe they’ll update us on that tonight.
As tonight’s show begins, I understand what’s going on now. Apparently they aren’t trying to add a new member to the Pussycat Dolls. The creator (Robin Antin) is going to try to form a new girl group that she’ll call “Girlicious.” So it really has nothing to do with the Pussycat Dolls, except for the creator. (Yes, Girlicious is a ridiculous name for a group.) Fifteen girls will begin, and three will become the group Girlicious. Along the way, members of the Pussycat Dolls will appear to “inspire” the competitors.
Our host, Mark McGrath (wasn’t he Sugar Ray?) greets us tonight at the Orpheum Theater in Hollywood. The fifteen hopefuls are onstage, and Mark is joined by Robin Antin. She tells the girls that the idea of Girlicious is “new, fresh and young, kind of an urban vibe, what every girl aspires to be.” Robin delivers the news that at the end of the week, three of the girls will be eliminated.
The girls head to their hotel and make their introductions to each other. Here’s the lineup:
Carrie is 25, from Fairfield Illinois, and says she loves to party. She looks like a typical nice girl from the Midwest. She realizes that she’s a little older than most of the girls, and that this may be her last shot.
Keisha is 22, from North Hollywood, and is the lesbian of the group. She tells the girls that she’s got a girlfriend, which gets yells and shrieks from the others. She’s really pretty, African American, with a great smile and gorgeous eyes.
Charlye is 19, from Baytown Texas. Her dad died a few years ago from leukemia, and she says she really misses her dad. She says her mother has always been there for her, and she wants to give her mom everything she deserves.
