SirLinksalot: So You Think You Can Dance

So You Think You Can Dance
Recap by Jacob D
July 19, 2008
Last week on So You Think You Can Dance, the top 12 danced in an effort to become part of the all important top 10. Each of the six couples danced two routines and after falling into the bottom group for the fourth time, Comfort and Thayne were eliminated by the judges. Now, we are entering the second half of the competition and it's up to us America. The couples are no longer static and will be changed up each week. Our votes will not be for our favorite couple, but for our favorite individual dancer and whichever guy and girl draws the lowest number of our votes will be eliminated on each results night. Ready? Let's go.

Before we get to the show, there are a few things to address, some good and some bad. First, the bad news. You might've heard the rumors throughout the week, but Jessica King, whom made the top 10 with Will as her partner, has had to withdraw from the competition. It seems she has been dancing with ongoing injuries and throughout the show, she has cracked a couple ribs and bruised another. One could question how smart it was to keep performing with such nasty injuries. On the other hand, one could look at the fact that even though she was getting slammed by the judges every week and she was dancing with injured ribs, she never lost her charming personality and applaud her for staying strong. Either way, Jessica is gone and to replace her is the most recently eliminated girl, Comfort.

Now for the good news. I forgot to mention in my recap for last week's results show an update on the Robert Muraine/Phillip Chbeeb dance-off. If you'll remember, a couple weeks ago, popper and breakout star of this season's auditions Robert Muraine performed on the results show. Nigel then suggested that he have a dance battle with other breakout auditioner and popper Phillip Chbeeb on the season finale and Robert accepted. Well it seems Phillip was contacted and has agreed to take the challenge so there's something else to look forward to on the finale.

More good news for the show comes in the form of Emmy nominations. Three of last year's routines have been nominated and they are: the Wade Robson choreographed jazz number that Jaimie and Hok did a.k.a. The Hummingbird Dance, the Mandy Moore choreographed jazz number that Sabra and Neil did in which they were two power players in a boardroom meeting, and a Transformers routine that Shane Sparks choreographed, but I don't remember who danced it. Will one of them be added to the list of Emmy winning routines with Mia Michael's park bench contemporary number that Travis and Heidi performed in season two? I guess we'll find out whenever the Emmy broadcast airs, but I'll keep you readers updated, provided the Emmys air before this season finishes.

Now let's get on with the show. Each dancer randomly drew a partner out of a hat and with that partner, they perform two routines and a solo over the course of the night. The first person to choose a partner is Courtney and she picks Joshua. Their first routine is a Dave Scott choreographed hip hop number set to Mario's, "Skippin." It seems the theme is that Joshua is a mad scientist and he has created a dancing Frankenstein monster in Courtney, although Courtney is much prettier. Joshua is great as the scientist and Courtney performs well as the new life discovering movement for the first time. They give a solid performance with great moves and characterizations. In the audience are two boys with the words, "Courtney's Possie," on their shirts. I only mention this because they misspelled, "Posse." It's the little things, folks.

Guest judge for the week Lil' C says Joshua killed it and Courtney did really well. He likes that they made the routine their own and had chemistry despite being a new couple. Mary says Joshua stole the show while Courtney did a respectable job. Nigel says Joshua had a lot of good dancing and while Courtney did well with the character, he wasn't impressed with her dancing.

Performing the first solo of the night.....
