Reality TV Headlines SirLinksalot: So You Think You Can Dance

So You Think You Can Dance: The Top Six Perform
Recap by Jacob D
August 1, 2008
The last episode of So You Think You Can Dance was the penultimate performance show where are top six dancers performed in the hopes of being in the finale as part of the final four. Everyone danced their hearts out and now two of them must be eliminated. It isn't fun, but it's business that must be taken care of. Who will be dancing in the finale and who will come up just short? Let's find out.

The show begins with a group contemporary routine choreographed by the now Emmy-nominated SYTYCD staple, Mandy Moore. It is set to Bette Midler's, "The Rose," and is another one of those slow-dancing-in-white kind of numbers, but it's still lovely. Then Cat comes out and gives us a couple of bits of news. If you'll flash back to a couple weeks ago, Nigel was talking about the votes this show and Idol have received and then urged us all to register to vote for the upcoming election in November. Apparently, that helped registration at DeclareYourself.com shoot up by 400%. In news that directly effects the contestants, Adam Shankman is offering another prize to the winner and that is a featured dance role in an upcoming movie he is producing.

Before we get on with the results, all six of the dancers will have one more chance to dance a solo. After hearing encouraging speeches from the judges, Courtney is the first dance and she performs to A Fine Frenzy's, "Almost Lover." Her technique is nice and she's a likable girl, but I can never think of things to say about her beyond that. Mark dances next and he is performing to Gwen Stefani's, "Wind It Up." He begins the routine with a funny bit playing with his suspenders and then launches into the full Mark routine. Just be careful that you don't pull those pants up any higher, Mark. Katee is third and she dances to Jon McLaughlin's, "Beautiful Disaster." She comes alive in her dance and always performs like this is what she was born to do.

Joshua is the fourth soloist and he dances to Zapp's, "I Can Make You Dance." Ugh, I'm so sick of hearing that song on this show. Joshua does more of a pop-lock routine, showing off something different from what he usually does. After his solo, Cat points out that Josh got his braces taken out. Looking good, Josh! Chelsie dances fifth and performs to Travis Tritt's, "The Girl's Gone Wild." I don't know about that outfit, but Chelsie certainly kicks up a storm. Last up is Twitch and he is dancing to Bobby McFerrin's, "Don't Worry, Be Happy." Bobby McFerrin has gone on record to say that he is sick of that song. Anyways, Twitch performs with gusto and heart.

The guest dancer for the week is not an established name, but who knows what the future holds? It's 6 year old Lil' Demon doing a breakdance routine to Afrika BamBaataa's, "Planet Rock." I don't really like kids, but this boy is already so good at what he does.

Now it's time for the results, or at least some of them. The three girls are onstage and after reading their critiques from the performance shows, Cat informs Katee that she is safe. Next are the three boys and after reading their critiques, Cat tells Joshua that he is safe. Therefore, our first two dancers moving on to the finale are Katee and Joshua. Is anyone surprised?

Before getting to the final results, we have a performance from guest music artist Lady GaGa. She is singing her debut single, "Just Dance." This is the third I've seen her perform on TV and it looks like she's finally got her lipsyncing down. Look, I'm willing to believe she sang on the actual recording, but the two times I saw her prior to this, she was really out of sync with the words. Go check out her performance from the Miss Universe competition. Anyways, I like this song. I wish it were sharper and all the elements didn't seem so fuzzed out or muted, but it's a cool song.

Now it's time to see who will be joining Katee and Joshua in the finale. Onstage are Chelsie and Courtney and in my performance show recap, I predicted Courtney would be going home. I am wrong and she is moving on, meaning Chelsie is eliminated. Chelsie got on my nerves a bit at first, but I grew to like her with her fierce performances. Now are the boys, Mark and Twitch, and I predicted Twitch would be eliminated. I am wrong again and Mark is eliminated. No, not my Mark! Darn. Oh well, they all worked hard to get where they are so they all deserve a shot.

So there you have it. Chelsie and Mark, one of the original couples, are eliminated. That means our final four consists of Courtney, Joshua, Katee, and Twitch. One of them will be the winner of season four of, "So You Think You Can Dance." Who will it be? Tune into the final performance show and then the final results show next week and I'll see ya there.
