So You Think You Can Dance: Ranking The Top 10
|
|
Scoreboard by Jacob D.
July 11, 2008
On this week's episode of So You Think You Can Dance, the top six couples each danced two routines. Here's who danced what with whom:
Chelsie & Mark- Salsa, Broadway
Comfort & Thayne- Hip Hop, Contemporary
Jessica & Will- Contemporary, Quick Step
Courtney & Gev- Cha cha, Jazz
Kherington & Twitch- Krump, Tango
Katee & Joshua- Viennese Waltz, Bollywood
On results night, Comfort & Thayne fell into the bottom group for the fourth time, whereas Jessica & Will joined them for their second time and Twitchington for their first. In the end, Comfort and Thayne were eliminated.
On a side note, even though we are now heading into the second half of the competition, which focuses on individuals more than whole partners, I am ranking everyone with their partner one last time. When it's in the partner portion of the competition, it can be hard to gauge who the audience is really voting for. For example, Lacey & Kameron never fell into the bottom group in the first half of last season's competition, but as soon as it got to the second half, Kameron was eliminated right away while Lacey sailed to a fourth place finish. On the flip side, because the show had focused a lot on Danny throughout the competition, it seemed like he was carrying Sabra, but once it got to the second half, Sabra went on to win the whole thing.

Katee & Joshua
Current Ranking: 1 - Previous Ranking: 1
I absolutely love Katee & Joshua and I feel they are that perfect balance of personality and the love of dance. Katee has really blossomed as a star dancer and Joshua has shown amazing versatility, all with a humble attitude. I really feel they are one of the best couples the show has ever seen because they always do more than just give, "good, solid performances." They bring their performances to life and do an amazing job each week, especially with tackling the series' first ever Bollywood routine. It'll be a shame to see them get split up starting next week, but I fully expect them to challenge for the title.

Kherington & Twitch
Current Ranking: 2 - Previous Ranking: 2
These two, both supposed frontrunners, fell into the bottom group for the first time. It became evident that they sometimes have trouble really inhabiting their characters which goes to back to my argument in an earlier article that with these two, it's all about them and not so much the craft of dance. I want to see them buckle down as much on dancing as they do on being, "Twitchington." They both showed that spark when they performed their solos, especially Kherington, and we'll see if they can do more than just be a spectacle when they are separated and dancing with others.

Chelsie H. & Mark
Current Ranking: 3 - Previous Ranking: 3
Chelsie and Mark have been dependable all season, turning in thrilling performances here and there. However, it has now come to a point where they must find some way to take things to the next level because while they are performing than some couples, they are still being over-shadowed by certain other couples. I'm sticking them in the middle group because I see them staying for a while, but not really challenging for the title.

Courtney G. & Gev
Current Ranking: 4 - Previous Ranking: 5
Courtney & Gev finally woke up and had their breakout week. Is it too little too late? And who is the audience really backing? How much support will these two draw when they're separated? I'm not sure so I'm classifying them as, "middle group contestants."
|
Jessica & Will
Current Ranking: 5 - Previous Ranking: 4
These two are ranked last in the final paired scoreboard of the season. I'm not sure where these two really stand. I don't like this image the judges have painted of Will being this untouchable genius and that Jessica is lucky to even be in his presence. Will is super-talented, but I'm starting to dislike him for some reason, partly because of the favoritism the judges are playing. Jessica is under-rated, but she really hasn't been performing as strongly as Will, if we're being completely honest. Yet somehow, they survived for three weeks after their first trip to the bottom group in week one's results show. Who is the audience really voting for? We'll soon find out.
