So You Think You Can Dance
Jessica Withdraws & Comfort Comes Back
Rankings by Jacob D
As of July 19, 2008
|
This week on So You Think You Can Dance, nagging injuries forced Jessica to withdraw from the competition and Comfort was brought back to replace her. After that, the top 10 dancers were all switched up for the first time. On top of all of the dancers performing solos, here's who danced what with whom:
Courtney & Joshua- hip hop, rumba
Kherington & Mark- country two-step, jazz
Comfort & Twitch- smooth waltz, hip hop
Katee & Will- Broadway, pas de deux
Chelsie & Gev- contemporary, jive
On results night, our votes singled out Comfort and Kherington as the bottom two girls along with Gev and Mark as the bottom two boys. In the end, supposed frontrunner Kherington was eliminated along with the lovable Gev.

Katee
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: n/a
Forget the little overreaction the judges had at the end of Vegas week when they almost eliminated Katee. Katee is a revelation this season. She is a beautiful demure girl with an amazing spirit that comes through in every routine she does. She has elegance, she has technique, she has spunk, and she's the kind of gal you can depend on, turning in fantastic performances week after week after week. Katee has proven she's a star and look forward to watching her dance each week.

Joshua
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: n/a
How can you not love Joshua? He's a big tough guy, but also a sensitive teddy bear. He is humble offstage, but an absolute tiger onstage, attacking his routines. He has shown great versatility in each routine he has ever done while retaining who he is with his great hip-hop performances. Get used to seeing Joshua around for a while.

Will
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: n/a
Will is one of the most amazing technical dancers this show has ever seen, right up there with Danny from season three and Blake from season one, and great technique can take you far on this show. However, Will ran the risk of seeming too serious and that was quickly disspelled with a fun Broadway routine. He then delivered a knockout punch with the series' first ever pas de deux and a brilliant solo. Will is going to go a long ways whether or not he wins this show.

Chelsie
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: n/a
Chelsie seems to be a, "Keep on truckin'," kind of gal in that she always pushes through her performances and just keeps doing what she's so good at doing. Chelsie has really grown throughout this competition and her dancing is more fabulous than ever.

Twitch
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: n/a
I began to notice this week that Twitch has a hard time inhabiting his characters and disappearing into his partner routines unless he's doing hip-hop. That shows that he might not be as versatile as some other dancers which could end up hurting him. I don't think it will just yet, though.

Courtney
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: n/a
Courtney was good in both her routines, but I still don't feel that she is anything more than just a competent dancer. I have never tuned into So You Think You Can Dance thinking, "I can't wait to see what Courtney does!" I've also never left the show thinking, "Wow! Courtney was amazing!" However, she is good at what she does and showed a flash of brilliance with her amazing solo on the performance show. If she keeps dancing like that, she may sneak into the final four.

Mark
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: n/a
Mark had the pleasure of dancing the series' first ever country two-step, but it didn't go over so well. He then danced a jazz routine that was shapeless and not as strong as usual. Landing in the bottom group, he gave a thrilling solo and the votes kept him around. I don't know if he landed in the bottom group because he had a shaky night or because he's plateaued and doesn't have much further to go, but we'll see what kind of staying power he has in the coming weeks.
|
Comfort
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 8
Comfort has quite a hole to climb out of. Last week, she was eliminated after spending four weeks in the bottom group. As it is now, she's only here because Jessica had to drop out due to ongoing injuries. Comfort needs to dance like there's no tomorrow, but she didn't exactly start out that way with a clunky smooth waltz. She saved face with an energetic hip hop routine and after landing in the bottom group, she gave a thrilling solo. If she can dancing like she did in her solo and her hip-hop routine with Twitch, she could hang in there for a while. However, she's still got a long way to go and right now, I highly doubt she's going to win the whole thing.
