Survivor Africa winner Ethan Zohn has announced he is battling cancer. The 35-year-old reveals he was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin’s disease on April 30 and just learned he is suffers from a rare form of the disease called CD20-positive Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
“This is the ultimate game of Survivor and there’s really only one outcome, and that’s to win. There’s no other option,” Zohn tells People magazine.
Zohn began chemotherapy Friday. Treatment includes a more aggressive, three-month chemotherapy program which will cause nausea and weakness. Zohn will also lose his famous curly hair within two weeks.
“My hair is my identity,” he says. But instead of finding “long, disgusting Ethan Zohn hair all over my house,” he says he plans to shave it off.
“I’ll get a Mohawk or something fun that I’ve always wanted to do,” Zohn says.
“This is happening for a reason. You have to get spiritual about this. I know I want to help people and inspire people. That’s my purpose in life. So I need to use this as a platform,” he adds.
Zohn’s longtime girlfriend, Survivor Amazon winner Jenna Morasca, has vowed to help him get through chemo and fight the cancer. “I will fight with every fabric of my being to get him through this,” she says.
