Survivor Heroes Vs. Villains: Surviving Survivor With Big Egos, Big Delusions And Bigger Promises
Commentary and Recap by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Jenny Lane
February 5, 2010

Nobody does it better.
Last night the Survivor machine is brought us an hour of ‘memorable moments’ from former contestants.

Among others, we’ll hear from Colby Donaldson, Parvati Shallow, Jerri Manthey, evil Russell Hantz from this past season, and of course Richard Hatch. It’s actually just a shameless effort to get us in the mood for the upcoming Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.

Jeff Probst gets things started by reminding us that we’ve been addicted to the Survivor machine for ten years and twenty seasons. It all got started in Borneo, with the original sixteen survivors. Looking slim and aging well, Richard Hatch looks back on that first season. He talks about the first day, watching everyone else, and deciding who he could trust. We’re shown a clip of Richard sitting in a tree, immediately butting heads with others. He tells us that a big part of his strategy was his confidence and the control he claimed over his group.

What would a Richard recap show be without seeing Richard naked. He tells us that part of the reason he got naked was that he wanted time to himself. Jeff tells us that in many ways, Richard defined how the game of Survivor would be played in the future seasons. At the end, it came down to the final tribal council. There, we take another look at Susan making her ‘snakes and rats’ speech to Richard and Kelly. As we all know, Richard got the votes and won the first million dollar check from Survivor.

Since winning Survivor, Richard lost his fight with the IRS regarding taxes due on his winnings. As a result, he was sentenced to 51 months in prison.

Our next subject is Coach, aka Benjamin Wade. We see the challenge where he was standing on the posts with pegs. Coach screams, falls to the ground, says he threw out his back, and JT wins the challenge. Everyone runs to Coach’s aid, and he tells us that he was on the ground crying.

The next clip is how Survivor pushes everyone’s bodies to their limits. Russell Hantz tells us that the first challenge in Samoa was the most difficult for him. It was the one where he had to haul the big bundles of heavy logs back and forth.

Perhaps as difficult as the challenges given by the Survivor team are the ones that Mother Nature has to offer. Jerri talks about the rain in Panama, and we see her sobbing in the shelter. Colby talks about trying to make a fire when everything is wet. Cirie echoes the importance of fire, and how not having it breaks them down.

After a look at an assortment of injuries, Colby talks about when Mike fell into the fire and burned his hand. Richard says that’s when people started to say “that’s no wimp game.”

As the discussion turns to food, Tom, who I adored, talks about killing the shark during his season. We see Natalie kill the rat last season, and Russell says “when you see a beauty queen eat a rat, you know it’s real.” Of course, we have to take a look back on Jenna and Heidi taking their clothes off for peanut butter and Oreos.

Sporting what has got to be brand new boobs.....
