Survivor Gabon: "This Has Been A Long Time Coming"
Recap by Jenny Lane

Previously on Survivor, the tribes were shuffled around and alliances were split up. Fang continued to lose challenges, but still chose to send the physically strong Jacquie home, rather than the weaker Kelly. Jacquie’s departure left Ace with Sugar as his only ally. Sugar returned from exile island, immunity idol tucked away, and joined Ace on Fang.
The reward challenge involved tossing and blocking big pieces of fruit. Kota continued its winning streak, and received herb plants, vegetable plants, and the fruit that they collected. At the immunity challenge, the two tribes tossed big balls down a steep hill. They were aiming for goals at the bottom of the hill, and also had to try to block the other tribe’s ball. This one was close, but Kota emerged victorious once again, sending Fang to tribal council for the fourth time.
Back at the Fang camp, GC was over the whole Survivor experience. He snapped at Crystal, and announced that he was ready to call it quits. Everyone agreed, but then Matty, Crystal, Ken and Kelly “found” the hidden immunity idol in Sugar’s bag. They discussed blindsiding Sugar and getting her, and the idol, out while they could.
Despite the fact that Sugar’s idol was no longer a secret, the vote was unanimously for GC to go home. In my opinion, this was yet another poor decision on the part of Fang, and I’m sure it will come back to haunt them.
Tonight we begin at Fang’s camp, following tribal council on night 15. Around the campfire, everyone seems happy to have GC gone. Ace tells us that he has Sugar “in his pocket,” but now he has to find someone to be his “potential Benedict Arnold.”
The next morning, the mood at Fang is solemn, and everyone is bored, hungry and missing home. Matty tells us that he feels he has been in a bad position since the beginning, with Fang. He says that if someone approaches him with “a legitimate, logical, reasonable plan that might work, I’m jumping on board.”
Ace and Matty have a talk, and Ace asks Matty who he would like to keep around. Matty says he’d like to keep Ken, and Ace says he’s fine with that. Matty asks Ace about Sugar, and Ace says “I don’t want Sugar to go, you’ve got your Kenny and I’ve got my Sugar.” They decide to help each other out, and also keep Ken and Sugar for each other. Matty swears on his girlfriend, and Ace swears on his mother, which I always think is silly to do. Matty tells us that he won’t break his promise to Ace, but I wonder if Ace feels the same.
At Kota, they’re eating well and eating a lot. Bob tells us that Dan is eating as much as he and Susie are both eating, which of course irritates him. Corinne noticed it too, and tells us that they’re going through food way too fast because Dan is eating too much.
Back at Fang, they’re checking their dwindling rice supply. Ken tells us that he knew at the beginning that they were wasting rice, and now they only have six days’ rice left.
Ace tells Sugar that he thinks everyone knows she has the idol. Sugar asks why, and he says he thinks they went through her bag. Sugar offers to give Ace the idol, and Ace says “if you want to do that, it’s up to you.” Sugar gets the idol out of her bag and gives it to Ace, but I’m not sure what good that really does. Ace tells us that he’s in “a position of supremacy,” since he has Sugar and Matty on his side.
This week’s reward challenge is set up in a huge open field. From the air, it looks like a high school football field with a dirt running track around it. The proportion is different though, the width of the track part is about the same as the width of the football field part.
The tribes arrive, and see.....
