Survivor Gabon: I hope They Have Miserable Lives
Recap by Jenny Lane
December 5, 2008
Previously on Survivor, the tribes merged and called themselves ‘Nobag,’ which is Gabon spelled backwards. Unable to find the hidden immunity idol at exile island, Bob created a very convincing fake one. Charlie was blindsided at tribal council, and became the second member of the jury.

Sugar, Susie and Crystal targeted Randy as the next to go. Bob entrusted Sugar with his fake idol secret, even though he didn’t know that she has the real idol.

The reward challenge was the survivor auction. Kenny won the right to send someone to exile island, and he chose to send Bob. Corinne used all of her money to win an advantage at the immunity challenge. At the end of the auction, Randy won a plate of cookies that he was instructed to share with the tribe. Cookiegate ensued, as Sugar refused Randy’s cookie. Randy gave the extra cookie away, and then offered Sugar his final cookie, earmarked for him. Sugar took the cookie and then handed it to Matty, which infuriated Randy.

Randy decided that the only way for he and Corinne to stay in the game was for him to act out even more than usual. Then, assuming that Bob had found the hidden immunity idol, he planned to get Bob to give it to him. Then he and Corinne agreed to vote for Susie, so that she would be the one to go. Randy’s plan worked, at least the part about him making everyone at camp want him to go.

The immunity challenge involved a race across balance beams, followed by assembling a long row of large dominoes. Corinne’s advantage that she won at the auction was that she automatically got a spot in the final round. Her advantage wasn’t enough, and it was instead Kenny who won immunity.

With Bob back from exile island, Sugar convinced him to give Randy the fake idol. Bob did so, and Randy believed that it was the real thing. At tribal council, they rehashed cookiegate, as well as Randy being obnoxious at camp. Then after the votes were cast, Randy handed the fake idol over the Jeff, who informed him that it was in fact fake. Randy was stunned, and was voted out.

As tonight’s episode begins, we’re reminded that on day 22, Marcus got the rest of the tribe to toss an immunity idol in the ocean. Then we see how Kenny’s alliance was able to get rid of several members of the originally strong Kota. We see Randy using the fake hidden immunity idol, and Sugar laughing. Something we hadn’t seen before is Bob telling us that he was irritated with how Sugar’s laughing went on and on.

We rejoin Nobag on the 30th night, after tribal council. As soon as they get back to camp, Bob tells Sugar that he didn’t like how she laughed, and “stuck it in his (Randy’s) face,” and that it pissed him off. Sugar apologizes, but tells us that of course she wasn’t sorry at all.

Bob’s not the only one who is mad. Corinne starts yelling about the vote. I can’t quite get what she’s saying, but it sounds like she’s mad at Sugar for not doing what she said she was going to do. Sugar tells Corinne that she always talks behind other people’s backs, and then “to their face you act like a really sweet little girl with a bow on your head.” Corinne says she doesn’t act sweet, and she’s not at Survivor to make friends, but to win the game. Sugar says “exactly, we’re playing the game.” Corinne tells us that she’s “in a camp with a bunch of mutants, none of whom I like.”

The next morning, Kenny and Bob are out in the boat. They bring in some big fish in the net. Ken tells us that he’s proud of himself for doing all of the things that he has been doing. They take their catch back to camp, and MacGyver Bob takes apart a can to make a grill to cook the fish.
