Survivor Gabon: Sugar In Control? Or Just In The Lead?
Rankings by Logan Huffman
As of October 4, 2008
|
This week on ‘Survivor Gabon’, GC and Randy argued about the food situation, causing the others to view them as potential targets.
Meanwhile, Ace’s friendship with Sugar put a target on his back.
At the Reward Challenge, Ace and Paloma’s rivalry was taken to another level when he put Paloma in a physically demanding challenge that she was easily defeated in, only to protect Sugar from the tribe’s mercy.
Ace’s decision cost Kota their first challenge, as Fang finally claimed a victory. They sent Sugar to Exile Island, where she drew strength from her recently deceased father to find the hidden Immunity Idol. But back at camp, the others plotted to oust Sugar, while Ace pushed for Paloma to go home.
At the Immunity Challenge, Kota was off to a big lead, but physics teacher Bob couldn’t match up to professional gamer Ken when it came to the numeric puzzle, as Ken figured out the combination first and earned Fang their first Immunity Challenge win.
Back at camp, the tribe initially went along with Ace’s plan to oust Paloma, but the others considered targeting Ace to sever the bond he had with Sugar. At tribal council, Paloma and Ace continued to battle, but in the end, Paloma’s time was up, and she was voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
Here's my rankings for the week.
|
Jessica "Sugar" Kiper (29)
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 9
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
Occupation: Pin-Up Model
With the discovery of the hidden Immunity Idol, Sugar jumps to number one this week. I said last week that it could go either way for her, and I think she has proven to be a rather tough competitor. If she plays the hidden Immunity Idol correctly (not like Jason), she could make it very far into the game.
|
Crystal Cox (29)
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 8
Hometown: Durham, North Carolina
Occupation: Former Olympic Athlete
Crystal leaps into the second position this week. She showed a ton of athletic ability in the challenges this week, and she proved herself to be one of the stronger members of her tribe. Crystal has a bright future in the game.
|
Marcus Lehman (28)
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 1
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Occupation: Doctor
Marcus slips two spots to third place this week. His alliance is still controlling the game, and being the strongest member of his alliance (and possibly his tribe), he is in a great position.
|
Charlie Herschel (29)
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 2
Hometown: New York, New York
Occupation: Lawyer
Charlie also remains near the top of this week’s scoreboard. He seems to be the most strategic member of his alliance, and it will be interesting to see what future moves he makes in the game.
|
Corinne Kaplan (29)
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 4
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Pharmaceutical Sales
Corinne retains her ranking this week. I really think Corinne will be the dark horse of the game, and she seems to be cunning enough to make it very far in this game.
|
Jacque Berg (25)
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 5
Hometown: Santa Barbara, California
Occupation: Medical Sales
Jacque remains near the middle of the scoreboard this week. She is the lowest key member of her alliance, but she isn’t in any danger right now, and she really seems to have a good chance at having a decent run in the game.
|
Robert "Bob" Crowley (58)
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 3
Hometown: Portland, Maine
Occupation: Physics Teacher
Bob falls lower on the scoreboard this week, just below the controlling alliance in his tribe. Bob is a great asset to the tribe, but he is on the outside of the alliance. However, he is safe for now.
|
Matty Whitmore (29)
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 7
Hometown: Pacific Palisades, California
Occupation: Personal Trainer
Matty stays near his previous ranking on this week’s scoreboard. He is a physically strong competitor, and he should be safe for a while with his strength.
|
Dan Kay (32)
Current Ranking: 9         Previous Ranking: 12
Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts
Occupation: Lawyer
Dan gains three positions this week. His strength showed through on the Reward Challenge, and he is a great physical asset to his tribe. He still is one of the players on the outside of his tribe, but he should be safe for the time being.
|
Randy Bailey (49)
Current Ranking: 10         Previous Ranking: 10
Hometown: Eagle Rock, Missouri
Occupation: Wedding Videographer
Randy retains his ranking this week. His tribe seems to be on his side, and he doesn’t appear to be in any danger at the moment.
|
Ken Hoang (22)
Current Ranking: 11         Previous Ranking: 14
Hometown: Westminster, California
Occupation: Professional Gamer
Ken moves up three positions this week. He single-handedly won the Immunity Challenge for his tribe, but the fact of the matter is, he is still an outsider on his tribe, and I’m not sure he will be able to overcome that.
|
Susie Smith (47)
Current Ranking: 12         Previous Ranking: 16
Hometown: Charles City, Iowa
Occupation: Hairdresser
Susie moves out of last place and up to the twelfth position on this week’s scoreboard. Even though she is the weakest player on her tribe, GC’s attitude problem seems to be a huge issue, and that may save her from being booted next.
|
Kelly Czarnecki (22)
Current Ranking: 13         Previous Ranking: 11
Hometown: Buffalo Grove, Illinois
Occupation: Retail Sales
Kelly falls further down the scoreboard this week. She did finally speak this week, but she didn’t play well. She was the only person to vote with Paloma, and she only isolated herself by doing that. She isn’t a strong enough asset to the tribe to protect herself, and if the tribe decides they still need Ace’s strength, Kelly could be the next to go.
|
Ace Gordon (27)
Current Ranking: 14         Previous Ranking: 6
Hometown: Naples, Florida
Occupation: Jewelry Sales
Ace falls to last place for his tribe this week. Protecting Sugar, along with his personality, has rubbed most of his tribe the wrong way. He wants to protect Sugar, which may end up costing him, and despite his strength, I think his time in Africa may be up shortly.
|
Danny "GC" Brown (26)
Current Ranking: 15         Previous Ranking: 13
Hometown: Portland, Oregon
Occupation: Maintenance Man
GC falls to last place for his tribe, and last place overall, on this week’s scoreboard. GC continued his strategy of arguing with his tribe mates. With his attitude, he isn’t going to last very long in this game. Even with weaker players on his tribe, I think the others are sick of GC and will take the opportunity to boot him when it presents itself.
|
Paloma Soto-Castillo (24)
Hometown: Downey, California
3rd Boot
This is not a shock. I ranked Paloma bottom for the Kota tribe last week, and when they lost, she went home, exactly like I expected. While there are weaker women competing on this season, they were all on the other tribe. Paloma was the weakest on her tribe, and she didn’t really try to do a lot of scheming to change her fate. Paloma did show a lot of spunk at Tribal Council, and I think she would have been interesting to watch progress in the game. Nevertheless, Paloma became the third castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Gillian Larson (61)
Hometown: Temecula, California
Occupation: Retired Nurse
2nd Boot
I really was hoping that Gillian could pull out a decent run like Rudy and Scout did in the past, but with older contestants, they either go early or make it far. In Gillian’s case, it was the former. Also, although she was only trying to help, she spoke up way too often, putting a target on herself, which was already big enough due to her lack of physicality alone. In the end, even Gillian’s positive attitude couldn’t save her, as she became the second castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Michelle Chase (24)
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Music Producer
1st Boot
I thought that Michelle had a chance to be a dark horse, but her attitude squashed that chance rather quickly. Michelle immediately isolated herself from all but one of her tribe mates, which is never a good strategy. Despite her performing better in the challenges, the tribe chose Gillian’s positive spirit over her constant negativity, as Michelle became the first player voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
