Survivor Gabon: They Rank Themselves - We Rank Them
Rankings by Logan Huffman
As of October 11, 2008

This week on ‘Survivor Gabon’, after Paloma’s departure, Kelly’s lone vote to oust Ace alienated her from the rest of her tribe. Over at Fang, GC became even more unpopular, and Crystal, GC, and Ken became the minority when Matty, Susie, Randy, and Dan formed an alliance.
The tribes were forced to rank their tribe members from best to worst. Matty and Marcus each lead their respective tribes, while Kelly and Susie were deemed the least useful. Matty and Marcus lead the selection of a tribal switch, and in the end, GC was the final person selected, leaving Sugar out in the dust. Sugar returned to Exile Island, earning a spot on whichever tribe lost the next Immunity Challenge, where she would return to replace the member of the losing tribe that was voted off.
Back at Fang, remaining Fang members GC, Crystal, and Ken worked to sway Kelly to their side. Hating her other former tribe mates, Kelly quickly took the bait to jump ship.
At the Immunity Challenge, Marcus stomped everyone, with only Ace, Matty, and Jacquie even putting up a fight for Fang. Kota easily won Immunity again.
Back at Fang, Kelly’s poor performance made GC, Crystal, and Ken doubt her, and they wanted to switch the vote to her. But Crystal worried that if they voted off Kelly, Sugar would return with the Idol and use it to protect Ace and Jacquie, possibly turning the tides on them. Crystal pushed the other remaining Fang members to vote for Jacquie instead.
At Tribal Council, although Kelly lashed out against some of her weaker allies, her alliance stuck with her, and ended up voting the much stronger Jacquie out of the game.

Marcus Lehman (28)
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 3
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Occupation: Doctor
After a temporary drop, Marcus returns to the top ranking this week. Although they lost Jacquie, his alliance is still in the majority, as I think Bob will stick with them. Also, Marcus proves time and time again that he is the strongest player in the game, and I think he should continue to do well.
|
Charlie Herschel (29)
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 4
Hometown: New York, New York
Occupation: Lawyer
Charlie ranks second this week. He and his closest ally Marcus managed to stay together through the tribal switch, and I think Charlie is in a very safe position at the moment.
|
Corinne Kaplan (29)
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 5
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Pharmaceutical Sales
Corinne ranks third this week. She, Marcus, and Charlie managed to all stay on the Kota tribe, and being that they have already solidified a position with Bob, they should all be fine. I’m still waiting to see the darker side of Corinne come out that I think she has.
|
Robert "Bob" Crowley (58)
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 7
Hometown: Portland, Maine
Occupation: Physics Teacher
Bob moves up three spots to number four on this week’s scoreboard. While it would be smarter for Bob to ally with the other members of his tribe, I think he will stick with Marcus, Charlie, and Corinne. Either way, Bob will be the swing vote and will not be going home next.
|
Crystal Cox (29)
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 2
Hometown: Durham, North Carolina
Occupation: Former Olympic Athlete
Crystal drops to number five this week, but remains the highest ranked Fang member. Crystal is pretty much controlling her alliance, and she seemed to lead the charge against Jacquie this week. While they will definitely have the numbers now, I think the Fang tribe will continue to lose with the ousting of a stronger player.
|
Ken Hoang (22)
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 11
Hometown: Westminster, California
Occupation: Professional Gamer
Ken finally breaks into the middle of the scoreboard this week. He seems to have a decent alliance with Crystal and GC, and they do have the power right now. Ken isn’t the strongest alliance member, but he isn’t the weakest either, so he is safe for now.
|
Danny "GC" Brown (26)
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 15
Hometown: Portland, Oregon
Occupation: Maintenance Man
GC busts out of last place and into seventh place on this week’s scoreboard. While I can’t stand him, he does have his alliance, and while he is the weakest member of his alliance, he is safe for the time being.
|
Jessica "Sugar" Kiper (29)
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 1
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
Occupation: Pin-Up Model
Sugar falls from first to eighth place this week. She made another trip to Exile Island this week, which did save her from the vote, but also put a target on her back. She will be going to the Fang tribe, so she will have her ally Ace, but they will still be the minority. She does have the hidden Idol, so as long as she is smart enough to play it correctly, she should be okay for now.
|
Matty Whitmore (29)
Current Ranking: 9         Previous Ranking: 8
Hometown: Pacific Palisades, California
Occupation: Personal Trainer
Matty shouldn’t be ranked this low. However, he did lose his entire alliance in the tribal switch. While he still is in the majority with the old Fang members, they kind of left him in the dust with the decision making. They just told him they were voting off Jacquie, and that was it. Matty is a strong player and with two other targets on his tribe, he is safe for now, but may be in danger soon.
|
Kelly Czarnecki (22)
Current Ranking: 10         Previous Ranking: 13
Hometown: Buffalo Grove, Illinois
Occupation: Retail Sales
Kelly came to life this week. While she still didn’t prove herself to be a great player, she did make her smartest move by immediately jumping ship when she had the chance. Although her alliance almost changed their mind, she had already made her impact, and they stuck with her. Things could go either way for Kelly right now, but I don’t think she’ll go next. However, if she wants to stay in it for the long haul, she’s going to have to start playing a lot better.
|
Dan Kay (32)
Current Ranking: 11         Previous Ranking: 9
Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts
Occupation: Lawyer
With the tribal switch, Dan is in the minority now. However, with him being the strongest of the three Fang members on the new Kota tribe, he shouldn’t be the next to go.
|
Randy Bailey (49)
Current Ranking: 12         Previous Ranking: 10
Hometown: Eagle Rock, Missouri
Occupation: Wedding Videographer
Randy falls two positions this week to number twelve. The tribal switch is not a good thing for him. He did do well in this week’s challenge, but they could easily toss him out before Susie if he is too lazy around camp, so he really has to be careful.
|
Susie Smith (47)
Current Ranking: 13         Previous Ranking: 12
Hometown: Charles City, Iowa
Occupation: Hairdresser
Susie falls to last place for the Kota tribe. She finally managed to get into an alliance, but the tribal switch caused them to lose Matty, leaving them in the minority. Although there are still three of them, Corinne, Charlie, and Marcus are tight, and I don’t think they’ll be able to sway Bob. Susie is the weakest of the three Fang members, so it doesn’t look good for her
|
Ace Gordon (27)
Current Ranking: 14         Previous Ranking: 14
Hometown: Naples, Florida
Occupation: Jewelry Sales
Ace ranks in last place this week. While he is a great physical asset to his tribe, he is in the minority, and Sugar has the Immunity Idol. Unless he can convince her to give it to him, I don’t think his chances are good. And I don’t think Sugar is dumb enough to give him her necklace.
|
Jacque Berg (25)
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 5
Hometown: Santa Barbara, California
4th Boot
Jacquie was such a strong player, and I don’t think anyone could have seen this coming. I was really looking forward to seeing her strategic side come out later in the game, but the tribal switch completely screwed her over. The rest of her alliance stayed on Kota, and all of her allies were gone. The others had already managed to get Kelly on their side, and Ace was the strongest physical asset, leaving Jacquie as the only target. Jacquie became the fourth castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Paloma Soto-Castillo (24)
Hometown: Downey, California
3rd Boot
This is not a shock. I ranked Paloma bottom for the Kota tribe last week, and when they lost, she went home, exactly like I expected. While there are weaker women competing on this season, they were all on the other tribe. Paloma was the weakest on her tribe, and she didn’t really try to do a lot of scheming to change her fate. Paloma did show a lot of spunk at Tribal Council, and I think she would have been interesting to watch progress in the game. Nevertheless, Paloma became the third castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Gillian Larson (61)
Hometown: Temecula, California
Occupation: Retired Nurse
2nd Boot
I really was hoping that Gillian could pull out a decent run like Rudy and Scout did in the past, but with older contestants, they either go early or make it far. In Gillian’s case, it was the former. Also, although she was only trying to help, she spoke up way too often, putting a target on herself, which was already big enough due to her lack of physicality alone. In the end, even Gillian’s positive attitude couldn’t save her, as she became the second castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Michelle Chase (24)
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Music Producer
1st Boot
I thought that Michelle had a chance to be a dark horse, but her attitude squashed that chance rather quickly. Michelle immediately isolated herself from all but one of her tribe mates, which is never a good strategy. Despite her performing better in the challenges, the tribe chose Gillian’s positive spirit over her constant negativity, as Michelle became the first player voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
