Survivor Gabon: Weak And Whiny GC Get's His Wish
Rankings by Logan Huffman
As of October 18, 2008
|
This week on ‘Survivor Gabon’, Sugar returned from Exile Island to the Fang tribe, and was dismayed to see that Jacque had been booted instead of Kelly. She and Ace worried about their positions in the game, knowing they were outnumbered by original Fang members. Meanwhile, Crystal and GC were at each other’s throats, and GC was getting on the nerves of everyone in his tribe. However, the entire tribe took a moment to marvel at the beauty of an elephant in its natural environment.
At a very close Reward Challenge, Kota pulled out yet another victory, once again sending Sugar back to Exile Island, where she chose comfort yet again, already having possession of the hidden Idol.
Over at Kota, an overeager Dan urged his new tribe to stick together after the merge, annoying some of the other tribe members. And right before the Immunity Challenge, GC disappeared, prompting Fang to consider leaving for the challenge without him. However, he did return to camp before the challenge.
At the Immunity Challenge, Sugar led a blindfolded Ace to failure, and Kota won yet another challenge. Back at Fang, Crystal dug through Sugar’s bag, finding the hidden Immunity Idol inside. GC begged the others to vote him off, but after confirming that Sugar had the hidden Idol, the others considered blindsiding her.
At Tribal Council, the tribe decided to honor GC’s wishes, and he was voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Marcus Lehman (28)
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 1
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Occupation: Doctor
Marcus stays on top of the leader board this week. Marcus is continuing to play a great game, both physically and with his alliance/mental skills. At this point, I’m thinking that it is unlikely that we won’t see Marcus in the finals.
|
Charlie Herschel (29)
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 2
Hometown: New York, New York
Occupation: Lawyer
Charlie remains at number two this week. The only reason he is below Marcus on the scoreboard is because Marcus seems to be a physically stronger competitor. However, Charlie is still playing a very good game at the moment.
|
Corinne Kaplan (29)
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 3
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Pharmaceutical Sales
Corinne stays at number three this week. Her position is still the same. She is number three in the alliance, so she will eventually have to make a power play to advance in the game. But that’s down the road, and she is safe for the time being.
|
Robert "Bob" Crowley (58)
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 4
Hometown: Portland, Maine
Occupation: Physics Teacher
Bob retains his ranking this week. Bob is still a fringe member of Charlie and Marcus’ alliance, which will eventually be an issue, but isn’t a problem for the time being.
|
Matty Whitmore (29)
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 9
Hometown: Pacific Palisades, California
Occupation: Personal Trainer
Matty moves up four positions to fifth place this week. Matty is in a decent position in his tribe right now, and with the merge approaching, I think he will perform very well in the individual challenges. He won’t be an immediate target, and if he can realign with his original alliance, he could go far in the game.
|
Crystal Cox (29)
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 5
Hometown: Durham, North Carolina
Occupation: Former Olympic Athlete
Crystal drops one spot this week. Crystal is a person that I think could actually adapt and do well after the merge. She is one of the stronger women in the game, and if she can get into a decent alliance, I think she could have a nice run in the game.
|
Ken Hoang (22)
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 6
Hometown: Westminster, California
Occupation: Professional Gamer
Ken moves down one spot this week. Ken is still one of the weaker tribe members, and he isn’t really in any sort of alliance, either. The merge is coming soon, and we know he won’t be winning the Immunity challenges, so if he doesn’t devise some sort of plan, he will be history very soon.
|
Dan Kay (32)
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 11
Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts
Occupation: Lawyer
Dan seems very eager to get to the merge. However, I’m not sure the original Kota members are feeling the same way. If Dan can manage to make it to the merge, I think he will perform well in the challenges, but he still needs to work on getting into a tight alliance to get to the finals.
|
Susie Smith (47)
Current Ranking: 9         Previous Ranking: 13
Hometown: Charles City, Iowa
Occupation: Hairdresser
Susie gains a few positions on this week’s scoreboard. She is doing well by just working hard and flying under the radar at this point. She knows that she is a physical liability to her tribe at this point, but if she can just hang on until the merge, she could make it much further into the game.
|
Kelly Czarnecki (22)
Current Ranking: 10         Previous Ranking: 10
Hometown: Buffalo Grove, Illinois
Occupation: Retail Sales
Kelly remains in tenth place this week. I haven’t seen a lot of game play from her, and at this point, Fang is just using her for her vote until she isn’t needed anymore. If she doesn’t step up her game, her time in Africa may be ending shortly.
|
Ace Gordon (27)
Current Ranking: 11         Previous Ranking: 14
Hometown: Naples, Florida
Occupation: Jewelry Sales
Ace moves up a few positions this week, but is still in a lot of danger. The merge is approaching, and at that point, strength is a threat instead of an asset. If they don’t feel comfortable blindsiding Sugar, Fang may decide to go ahead and weed out a physical threat for the upcoming individual Immunity Challenges.
|
Randy Bailey (49)
Current Ranking: 12         Previous Ranking: 12
Hometown: Eagle Rock, Missouri
Occupation: Wedding Videographer
Randy retains his ranking this week, but is last place for the Kota tribe. Randy isn’t playing horribly; he just isn’t in the best position, and I think he is the most likely to be booted if Kota somehow loses the next Immunity Challenge. However, I think Randy could have a decent run if he does make it to the merge.
|
Jessica "Sugar" Kiper (29)
Current Ranking: 13         Previous Ranking: 8
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
Occupation: Pin-Up Model
Sugar falls to last place on this week’s scoreboard. I really like Sugar, but I can’t see her going much further. I think that having the hidden Idol is a disadvantage. Nearly every person who has had it has ended up being blindsided, and it just puts a huge target on your back. We all know that the Fang tribe won’t win the next challenge, and this could be their last chance to blindside Sugar before the merge. I just don’t think they will let her get to the merge with the hidden Idol.
|
Danny "GC" Brown (26)
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 15
Hometown: Portland, Oregon
Occupation: Maintenance Man
5th Boot
I am so glad to see GC gone. His attitude of wanting to quit reminded me of Osten from ‘Survivor Pearl Islands’. I don’t understand why people sign up for the show, and then want to quit after they are out there competing. There has been sixteen seasons before this one, so you would think people would realize by now that they will be starving out in the elements, and it won’t be easy. Fang really tried to make GC successful, but he undermined all of their attempts. Maybe if he had stuck with being the leader, things would have worked out differently, but I doubt it, because he is just too weak and whiny. GC became the fifth castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’ after a unanimous vote.
|
Jacque Berg (25)
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 5
Hometown: Santa Barbara, California
4th Boot
Jacquie was such a strong player, and I don’t think anyone could have seen this coming. I was really looking forward to seeing her strategic side come out later in the game, but the tribal switch completely screwed her over. The rest of her alliance stayed on Kota, and all of her allies were gone. The others had already managed to get Kelly on their side, and Ace was the strongest physical asset, leaving Jacquie as the only target. Jacquie became the fourth castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Paloma Soto-Castillo (24)
Hometown: Downey, California
3rd Boot
This is not a shock. I ranked Paloma bottom for the Kota tribe last week, and when they lost, she went home, exactly like I expected. While there are weaker women competing on this season, they were all on the other tribe. Paloma was the weakest on her tribe, and she didn’t really try to do a lot of scheming to change her fate. Paloma did show a lot of spunk at Tribal Council, and I think she would have been interesting to watch progress in the game. Nevertheless, Paloma became the third castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Gillian Larson (61)
Hometown: Temecula, California
Occupation: Retired Nurse
2nd Boot
I really was hoping that Gillian could pull out a decent run like Rudy and Scout did in the past, but with older contestants, they either go early or make it far. In Gillian’s case, it was the former. Also, although she was only trying to help, she spoke up way too often, putting a target on herself, which was already big enough due to her lack of physicality alone. In the end, even Gillian’s positive attitude couldn’t save her, as she became the second castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Michelle Chase (24)
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Music Producer
1st Boot
I thought that Michelle had a chance to be a dark horse, but her attitude squashed that chance rather quickly. Michelle immediately isolated herself from all but one of her tribe mates, which is never a good strategy. Despite her performing better in the challenges, the tribe chose Gillian’s positive spirit over her constant negativity, as Michelle became the first player voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
