Survivor Gabon: Who Is Really In Control Of This Game?
Rankings by Logan Huffman
As of November 15, 2008
|
This week on ‘Survivor Gabon’, Corinne and Charlie were shocked to see that Marcus had been blindsided at the previous Tribal Council.
Fang fell apart at the Reward Challenge, as Matty and Randy were at each other’s throats.
Nevertheless, they won the challenge, with their reward immersing them into the culture of a local Gabonese village.
Bob and Matty worried about their positions in their tribes, but both were granted reprieves as the tribes finally merged.
Susie won the first individual Immunity Challenge, and became the only safe castaway at the upcoming vote.
Back at camp, Bob, Randy, Charlie, and Corinne stuck with their Kota four alliance, while Matty, Crystal, Ken, and Susie stuck with their alliance, leaving Sugar as the swing vote for the impending Tribal Council.
Both sides worked to sway Sugar to vote their way, with Randy wanting to oust his enemy Crystal, while Ken wanted to blindside Charlie.
At Tribal Council, after Randy and Crystal got into an argument, Sugar decided to side with Ken, Crystal, Susie, and Matty, and a stunned Charlie was ousted from ‘Survivor Gabon’.
Here's my rankings for the week...
|
Ken Hoang (22)
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 2
Hometown: Westminster, California
Occupation: Professional Gamer
Ken bounces up to the top position on the scoreboard. Ken is leading his alliance, and he was the one who decided who his entire alliance was targeting this week. Charlie was a smart player to target, as he was well-liked and was playing the game fairly well. He also managed to sway Sugar to his side despite her distrust for him. Ken is setting himself up in a great position to win this game.
|
Jessica "Sugar" Kiper (29)
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 7
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
Occupation: Pin-Up Model
Sugar leaps five positions up the scoreboard into second place this week. I think Sugar is one of the most powerful players in the game right now. She hasn’t really tied herself down to an alliance (until now), but yet, she has managed to avoid being a target. Sugar was the swing vote this week, which shows how powerful she is in the game. I think Sugar made the right decision for her game, and if she continues to play the game this well, I think we may see her in the final three.
|
Crystal Cox (29)
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 1
Hometown: Durham, North Carolina
Occupation: Former Olympic Athlete
Crystal falls to the third position this week. I don’t think Crystal’s open fighting with Randy is helping her game (or popularity), but it doesn’t really matter at this moment, because her alliance has the power. While Crystal’s strategy will probably end up costing her if she reaches the finals, it’s serving her well at this point.
|
Susie Smith (47)
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 3
Hometown: Charles City, Iowa
Occupation: Hairdresser
Susie falls one spot to number four this week. Susie really impressed me with her Immunity Challenge win. I didn’t think she had it in her, but she stomped everyone. Susie is starting to emerge as quite a threat, and she could end up having a very strong showing in the game.
|
Matty Whitmore (29)
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 9
Hometown: Pacific Palisades, California
Occupation: Personal Trainer
Matty jumps four positions up to fifth on this week’s leader board. While Matty is back in with his alliance, he is the outsider in the alliance. On next week’s previews, it looks as if the desperate Kota members are trying to convince him to jump ship. If Matty does, going to the end with Randy and Corinne could spell victory for him.
|
Robert "Bob" Crowley (58)
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 8
Hometown: Portland, Maine
Occupation: Physics Teacher
Although Bob moves up two positions, it is only because the tribes merged. Bob continues not to really play the game, and I know he is a super smart guy, so I wish we could actually see some strategy from him. He is the least threatening of the original Kota members, so he will most likely be picked off last, but at this point, if he isn’t ever going to make any strategic moves, I wish he would just get voted off now.
|
Corinne Kaplan (29)
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 4
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Pharmaceutical Sales
Corinne drops three positions down the scoreboard to number seven this week. Corinne is in trouble. She wasn’t able to manage to convince Sugar to side with her alliance, which doesn’t bode well for her. Corinne is already seen as threatening and annoying on the other alliance’s radar, which puts her in even more danger. However, Randy is more hated than even her, which may just save her for now.
|
Randy Bailey (49)
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 6
Hometown: Eagle Rock, Missouri
Occupation: Wedding Videographer
The merge was bound to happen eventually, and it’s caught up to Randy now, who falls to last place on this week’s scoreboard. Randy has made a bitter enemy in Crystal, but Crystal’s alliance is in power now. Randy has managed to alienate most of the alliance that has the upper hand, and especially with Sugar wanting Randy gone, I think the alliance will allow her to have her way since she sided with them, and Randy will be the next to go.
|
Charlie Herschel (29)
Hometown: New York, New York
Occupation: Lawyer
10th Boot - 2nd Jury Member
Charlie was yet another shocking boot in a season of the strong players being picked off one after another. Charlie didn’t really make any gaming mistakes, but Ken is running the show right now, and Ken decided that the hidden Immunity Idol clue that Charlie took from him was enough of a reason to target him. Ken managed to convince Sugar, and that was all it took, as Charlie became another blindsided castaway, the tenth player to be booted from the game in a 5-4 vote. However, he will return as a member of the jury, who will decide which player will win the $1 million dollar prize and the title of Sole Survivor.
|
Marcus Lehman (28)
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Occupation: Doctor
9th Boot - 1st Jury Member
I am completely shocked that Marcus didn’t make it to the finals. He was arguably the strongest player in the game. This newest tribal switch was his downfall. If he had been on Fang, this wouldn’t have happened. Unfortunately, Susie was feeling on the outs, and she was presented with the chance to take out the strongest player in the game. Like any person who is even somewhat smart, she took the opportunity and jumped ship. Marcus became the ninth person to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’, but he will return as the first member of the jury.
|
Dan Kay (32)
Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts
Occupation: Lawyer
8th Boot
Dan ranks in last place for the Kota tribe this week. His extra consumption of food really seems to be a touchy issue with his tribe, and I think it has enlarged the target he already had on his back. He hasn’t really been able to make any solid allies in his new tribe, and I think he will most likely be the person Kota votes off next.
|
Ace Gordon (27)
Hometown: Naples, Florida
Occupation: Jewelry Sales
7th Boot
Ace moves up three positions this week. Although he isn’t exactly the most popular person in the game, he is a physical asset, and he seems to be able to make pacts when he needs to. If he holds tight to his alliance with Matty, he could have a good run in the game, since I think he will dominate in the individual Immunity Challenges if he makes it to the merge.
|
Kelly Czarnecki (22)
Hometown: Buffalo Grove, Illinois
Occupation: Retail Sales
6th Boot
I’m actually surprised that Kelly even made it this far. She didn’t play the social aspect of the game very well, and immediately isolated herself from Kota. Her only saving grace was the tribal switch, and if she had committed to that alliance, she could have taken that far into the game. However, I don’t think Kelly really knew how to play the game, and her outspoken nature finally cost her, as she became the sixth castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Danny "GC" Brown (26)
Hometown: Portland, Oregon
Occupation: Maintenance Man
5th Boot
I am so glad to see GC gone. His attitude of wanting to quit reminded me of Osten from ‘Survivor Pearl Islands’. I don’t understand why people sign up for the show, and then want to quit after they are out there competing. There has been sixteen seasons before this one, so you would think people would realize by now that they will be starving out in the elements, and it won’t be easy. Fang really tried to make GC successful, but he undermined all of their attempts. Maybe if he had stuck with being the leader, things would have worked out differently, but I doubt it, because he is just too weak and whiny. GC became the fifth castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’ after a unanimous vote.
|
Jacque Berg (25)
Hometown: Santa Barbara, California
4th Boot
Jacquie was such a strong player, and I don’t think anyone could have seen this coming. I was really looking forward to seeing her strategic side come out later in the game, but the tribal switch completely screwed her over. The rest of her alliance stayed on Kota, and all of her allies were gone. The others had already managed to get Kelly on their side, and Ace was the strongest physical asset, leaving Jacquie as the only target. Jacquie became the fourth castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Paloma Soto-Castillo (24)
Hometown: Downey, California
3rd Boot
This is not a shock. I ranked Paloma bottom for the Kota tribe last week, and when they lost, she went home, exactly like I expected. While there are weaker women competing on this season, they were all on the other tribe. Paloma was the weakest on her tribe, and she didn’t really try to do a lot of scheming to change her fate. Paloma did show a lot of spunk at Tribal Council, and I think she would have been interesting to watch progress in the game. Nevertheless, Paloma became the third castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Gillian Larson (61)
Hometown: Temecula, California
Occupation: Retired Nurse
2nd Boot
I really was hoping that Gillian could pull out a decent run like Rudy and Scout did in the past, but with older contestants, they either go early or make it far. In Gillian’s case, it was the former. Also, although she was only trying to help, she spoke up way too often, putting a target on herself, which was already big enough due to her lack of physicality alone. In the end, even Gillian’s positive attitude couldn’t save her, as she became the second castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
|
Michelle Chase (24)
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Music Producer
1st Boot
I thought that Michelle had a chance to be a dark horse, but her attitude squashed that chance rather quickly. Michelle immediately isolated herself from all but one of her tribe mates, which is never a good strategy. Despite her performing better in the challenges, the tribe chose Gillian’s positive spirit over her constant negativity, as Michelle became the first player voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
