Dave Ball (38)
Hometown: Los Angeles, Ca
Occupation: Fitness Instructor
"Danger" Dave Ball grew up in a family full of preachers but don't be fooled because he is not your typical "son of a preacher man." After he earned a degree in opera from Oklahoma State, this "rock and roll rebel" took many odd jobs to stay afloat including one as a flight attendant at a major airline.
Although Dave's fiery personality may have gotten him into hot water more than once, he has a knack for reading people which has helped him through the rough spots. His innate intelligence has been honed through years of playing strategy games and his body benefits from the martial arts, biking and hiking he enjoys in his spare time.
Dave is currently teaching fitness and nutrition to people who want to lose weight and improve their health. "It took me a long time to sort out my own health issues and if I can help others get healthy, then it will be worth it." Dave is the most physically fit he has ever been and he is counting on the element of surprise to propel him to the top of this game.
After spending 10 years on the road, this journeyman says, "I've never been terribly concerned with money. I've always been more interested in making my life a rich experience. Having said that, I can do anything for a million dollars because that will set me up for life."
Dave is single and currently resides in Los Angeles, Calif. His birth date is August 13th.
Stimpy’s Thoughts:
Maybe I’m biased, but when I see ‘degree in opera’, I don’t immediately jump to the conclusion that this person is gonna win Survivor.
Now granted, Dave did get said degree at Oklahoma State, and I’m thinking that more than half the class didn’t make it to graduation because they were throttled by the band geeks, or other even the jocks, when the band geeks ran away too fast.
Okay, enough dissing on the opera degree (seriously though, yer kinda limiting yourself employment wise with a degree like that aren’t you?), let’s analyze a few other things with ol’ Dave here, shall we?
Hmmm. I see the word ‘fiery’ and ‘trouble’ closely associated in there. Not a good thing.
Numerous odd-jobs to stay afloat. Hmmm. Can anyone say ‘lack of direction’?
Now, both those red-flags can be attributed to blowing off steam while being young, and now at thirty-eight, perhaps Dave is a more well-rounded and centered individual.
I don’t really get that vibe, but it’s possible.
His biggest asset appears to be his ability to read people, and trust me, that can be huge in this game.
But I’m also somewhat bothered by that ‘his innate intelligence’ blurb in there. Trust me folks, the producers at Survivor don’t throw terms like that around themselves, so it’s gotta be something he said about himself.
And that is a huge red-flag. It’s one thing to think of yourself as being intelligent. Hey I do, and I’m absolutely right.
But if you toss ‘innate’ in there, boy do I get the feeling that you think your shit doesn’t stink, and that is never a good thing.
Not that it’s going to totally screw his chances in this game, because I’d like to believe that at thirty-eight, he’s a skosh smarter than that to think he’s the end all and be all, and others are just his minions.
If he’s not, he could be gone before the merge. If he is just a tad full of himself, and it doesn’t affect things too much, then he’s going to have to use whatever wisdom he’s acquired in his thirty-eight years and apply it well, and then maybe he could make his way to the latter stages.
