Shannon Waters is proud to be the first female Marine Sergeant to play the game of SURVIVOR. Although she has completed her military service and is now in the world of sales, Shannon will always remain true to her roots as a second generation Marine.
After serving her country for five years, Shannon went onto become a chef before changing gears to be a sales representative for a food service company. She credits her success to her industry knowledge and people skills. In her sales role, she feels connected to people soon after meeting them and is able to understand how to deliver what they genuinely need. This ability helped her achieve “Salesman of the Year” in 2008, along with the support of a great sales team.
On the weekends, Shannon splits her time between riding her Harley, which she’s affectionately named “Chunky”, enjoying the companionship of her dogs and hanging out with family. As number 8 out of 9 kids, she has plenty of family in close proximity to keep her busy.
Shannon is committed to preparing for the game. She has lost 4 pant sizes and 70 pounds but admits that she may have trouble staying under the radar. “I’m like this ball of energy just ready to explode, because I’m putting it out there and I think that rocks.”
Shannon is a native of Renton, Wash., where she currently resides with her canine kids Bruce and Kali.
Stimpy's Thoughts:
Aw nuts. I want to like her and her chances, I really do. But when she mentions that she may have trouble staying under the radar because she's this ball of energy ready to explode, I just hear a bunch of her tribemates whispering 'Shannon, tonight?' to each other and nodding before they head off to Tribal Council.
Remember Gillian from Gabon? She was a ball of energy too, and her tribe almost couldn't wait to dump her.
How about that ball of energy known as Wanda from Palau? Yeah, she was in that game long enough to complete a sentence. Unfortunately she chose to sing that sentence and she was left swinging in the breeze before the game began in earnest.
Now, all that being said, Shannon does seem to be a driven woman, and I'm impressed she's lost as much weight as she has in preparation for this.
Plus, who doesn't love a chick who drives a Harley?
Toss in her obvious people skills from her work experience, the work ethic she undoubtedly got from her time in the Marines, and those could be assets for her in the game.
Shannon is really gonna have to work those people skills and prove her worth early on and get into a solid alliance (of say, more than two or three people), in order to get over the initial hump, when a lot of the boot choices are made in a more knee-jerk fashion than being based on strategy.
In other words, get into that good alliance early, and they just may keep you around for while even if you are aggravating them.
Like I said, I really wanted to like Shannon and her chances, but I'm not getting a good vibe her folks.
