Survivor China: The Battle Is Heating Up As Heads Roll
Commentary by Alisa
October 13, 2007
To be in China with one of our favorite reality shows has got to be one of the biggest treats of all time. I don't throw my words around loosely (except at parties but that's another story) and when I see this new Survivor I am thrilled beyond belief.
The reason that I wax rhapsodic about this particular location is due to the flawless and beautiful photography and editing which allows us to kick back with our Bud Lites (yuck) and our Doritos-or anything from the "ito" food group--and get to enjoy some of the most wondrous sights in the world.
China's landscape is breathtaking, especially the parts that we haven't seen and are just now viewing: the lush green islands, the fantastically formed mountains some of which are actually considered sacred. The tallest ones, it is said, separate heaven from earth.
An interesting concept if you are a Taoist, Buddhist or just spiritually inclined.
I am willing to believe some of this because when I see the mountains in the distance, it really gives me a feeling of peace and serenity.
The two tribes, however, are too busy plotting and squabbling to look to the North and see what we get to observe.
Zhan Hu and Fei Long Are Not Chinese Film Stars
It is taking me a while to get these tribal names committed to memory, but then again these are complicated names.
The people inhabiting the tribes are diverse and are still strangers to me. Some have made themselves known and heard too much which may not be a great idea in the game of Survivor. There are those that are lazy and those that are bossy and the others are either inept and then there are the ones that show promise.
I can't get over the tribe members that think it's cool to rest all day in order to save themselves for challenges like Sherea who is snoozing among colorful pillows while the others are working their butts off doing the necessary every-day chores like collecting wood and finding food etc. Her excuse is so lame that it stands out like a sore thumb. She's not that fantastic at the challenges that she doesn't piss off the rest of her tribe who scurry like hard working ants in order to keep their actual survival going.
Then there are the battles that are raging between Jean Robert and various members of his tribe. He is loud, bossy and irritating and has locked horns with a few people. Courtney may be skinnier than is legal, but she knows when somebody is getting on her nerves. That somebody's name is Jean Robert.
The Peacemakers
The ones that impress me the most are the participants who want to keep their tribe strong and eliminate all the fighting. Frosti is one of those guys and so is Todd. They are the doers and not the talkers. Quiet leaders that show promise. Todd may be small in stature but he is a very self-assured guy and likeable. A natural leader. Frosti follows the same pattern. The women who seem the most amicable are Amanda, Ashley, Denise, and Jaime. Erik, the twenty-six year old musician from Nashville is another "pick" of mine. There may be romance in the air even though he is a self-declared virgin. We'll see how his flirtation with Jaime progresses. They make a cute couple. The others fall in between somewhere. I have yet to hear some of them say anything. I'm sure they do but the editors left footage on the "cutting room floor" since it probably wasn't very interesting.
The Reward Challenge
That was a good one.....
