Survivor China: Dave Is Sent Packing!
Commentary by Peter Sacco, Phd.
October 12, 2007
After a week away I'm back! I must admit I wasn't able to watch Survivor last week when it is was on, but did find sometime along the way to find out that Leslie was tossed. I was shocked and disappointed when I heard the news. Someone who actually had good values, morals and judgment gets the boot before a handful of other scoundrels. With that said, when Dave, a.k.a. "The former Male Model" got tossed last night… I wasn't shocked at all.

Dave's demise was a project in the works right from the beginning when he decided to be leader-- sorry, make that dictator. He was warned by the others to back off and stop being so bossy and a "know-it-all". As bad as he was, he still had the empathy of several of his tribe members, a tribute based on the amount of work he was doing to sustain the tribe. However, Dave wasn't content just being a busy bee-- oh no! Dave needed to be "queen bee". And look where it got him!

Dave should have seen the potential writing on the wall when he was taken hostage by the other tribe. He saw Leslie's fate and Leslie was a "nicer person" than he was. Dave had his intense motivational qualities working for him and if he would have seen the light, went back to his camp and been a "reformed" man and acted that way, Sherea would have gotten the boot.

As for Sherea… talk about a lazy waste of space. Her tribe hasn't been eating nor basking in the spoils of the other tribe, but to a man, this woman looks like she isn't shedding any pounds! Members of her tribe are beginning to look thinner and drawn out, but not her. Could it be that her lying around all of the time and not helping the rest of her tribe do work is allowing her to maintain her girth?

When Ashley was still around she held the heavy weight belt and title for laziest ass on the island. Gee, I wonder who took the title away from her when her butt was booted off the island? And how does Sherea feel about Dave going? "Ride the workhorse til the tail falls off." as she aptly put it. Gee, I wonder if she was referring to Dave as "horse" in the literal or figurative sense. I hope not literally… Anyone have a mirror?

As much as I wasn't sad to see Dave go, and knowing what an annoying pain in the ass he was, I would rather have seen them toss the laziest ass on the island. There's that old adage, "What have you done for me lately?" Sherea seems to think she is helping her tribe win the competitions. Funny, but I saw two competitions last evening and I didn't see that particular tribe win either one. Furthermore, I didn't catch myself saying once, "Gee, look at that Sherea, she's a real gladiator…she's a superstar!" The only thing I caught myself saying is, "What a parasite!" I understand the tribe had enough of Dave, but guess what? The show is about Survival! You spend more time in camp than you do in competition. Dave was the man who saw that something always got done at camp. Furthermore, there was a drop off when he left, and call him "a pain in the ass", but he still got Sherea to at least pull some of her weight, which sure as heck is a tall order!

As for the other tribe…Jean-Robert is becoming their Dave. Does this guy ever talk about anything other than how good a poker player he is and how he is using his poker strategy to win? I am going to hazard a guess and assert that if his tribe would have had to go to council three weeks in a row to vote someone off the island, he would have been at the tables flipping chips. This dude better get an attitude adjustment or it will be him leaving next and not the contestant who really should be long gone…Courtney!

If they had a competition for complaining and eye-rolling she would be the master! She is a bigger pain in the ass than Dave. Her little pity parties are getting annoying. She doesn't pull her weight in the competitions and uses her "weight" as the issue. Tell me, what in the world did this girl expect coming to the island? Did she not watch Survivor-- ever? As far as their tribe thinking it's better to get rid of the stronger ones…give me a break! Without James and Jean-Robert, they wouldn't have won as many challenges as they have.

If I was to handicap the next two weeks on Survivor picking one person from each tribe who should go home, this would be the easiest choice I would ever have to make watching this show. Both Sherea and Courtney are no-brainers. I would assume Peih-gee will become the fulltime leader of her tribe. I would also hazard a guess that losing Dave, they have also lost just a little more testosterone from their tribe, even though his behaviors and attitude would sometimes assert otherwise. Dave gave them a greater chance of winning in the competitions as well. Basically, you don't get rid of your biggest person and most athletic when you have a load of competitions to go. With that said, no worries. Sherea is power napping right at this moment and conserving her energy. She is getting ready to rumble in the jungle!

Meanwhile, Jean-Robert is off somewhere in the jungle talking to the camera, discussing his poker logic and how he is extrapolating it to win Survivor. I just have one question… Is he now talking to the Camera in Mandarin? Jean-Robert talks Mandarin!
