Survivor China: "You Want A Hug Baby?"
Episode 8 Recap by Professor Dan
November 9, 2007
This week on Survivor: China, we start off by seeing the recap of how Jaime got her dumb ass voted off, while thinking she had a Hidden Immunity Idol that she didn't have. We join Hae Da Fung on Night 21, as they return from Tribal Council. Jean-Robert is thankful to still be around. He says to us, "I was like, is this really happening? Could this possibly be that she found an individual Immunity Idol somewhere at our camp?" As they are getting into bed, Erik is actually kind of afraid to ask Jean-Robert to move.
James gives Jean-Robert a hard time, saying "move so the poor boy can lay down." Jean-Robert says he thought he was going home tonight. "So what, now you want a hug baby?" James says. James talks to us, explaining that Jean-Robert is the only member of the old Fei Long who doesn't know that he has two Immunity Idols. They are not about to tell him either. James says, "We just need to keep his dumb ass in line because we are stuck with him and need his vote. So we have to deal with it."
James is messing with the nets looking for fish. He tells us that Fei Long needs to stick together. He points out that they have completely different personalities: they have a lunch lady, a waitress from New York, a stewardess, a professional gambler, and a gravedigger. Yes, he calls Todd a "stewardess". "Even though we clash," he says, "we pull together, and we win together."
He says that the other tribe got together as a clique. He says they're not trying to win an Immunity Idol: "They were trying to win a high school friends contest." Amanda tells us that James is a strong player: "At this moment, James is in a very good position because he has both of the Immunity Idols for sure, and he has almost guaranteed himself a top five position right now. I'm kind of afraid he could win the whole thing."
We go right to the Reward Challenge. The tribe will be divided into two teams of four. One member of each team will sit in a boat in the middle of the rectangular enclosure, while the members of the opposing team try to sink their boat using buckets of water. The person in the boat has only their hands to paddle away from their opposition and to bail water out of their boat. The first team to sink the other team's boat twice wins Reward. Want to know what you're playing for? Sure Jeff. It's a trip to a 1000-year-old village, where they will be served an authentic Chinese meal. They will also receive a bamboo tube with a note inside. Gee, wonder what that's all about?
The teams will be decided by a schoolyard pick with Peih-Gee and Jean-Robert as the "team captains". Jean-Robert takes James, while Peih-Gee picks Frosti. James then picks Todd and Frosti picks Erik. Finally, Todd takes Amanda, and Erik chooses Courtney over Denise. Poor Denise is out, and cannot share in the Reward. So it's Jean-Robert, James, Todd, and Amanda on the yellow team, and Peih-Gee, Frosti, Erik and Courtney on the red team.
Todd and Courtney are first in the boats. As she is doused repeatedly with water, Courtney keeps saying, "I hate you. I hate all of you." Part of the object in this challenge is to keep your boat in the middle of the rectangular area, making it more difficult for the opposition to dump water into your boat. Get close to the edge, and they're just going to inundate you. As Jean-Robert, James, and Amanda keep dumping water on Courtney, she isn't doing much to stay away, and her boat is filling up rapidly. Jeff says she needs to try to get away and she yells "Oh Jeff, shut up! I'm trying." Todd, on the other hand, is doing an excellent job at not only keeping away from Peih-Gee, Frosti, and Erik, but also bailing the water out with his hands. Inevitably, Courtney's boat sinks first. The yellow team leads one to nothing.
Amanda and Frosti take the boats for round two, Amanda for the yellow team, Frosti for the red team. Jean-Robert, Todd, and James are trying to sink Frosti. Amanda does a good job making herself a hard target. Frosti doesn't do as well, and James is a machine, dumping water nonstop on him. Frosti goes down, and the yellow team wins Reward! Jean-Robert, James, Todd, and Amanda are going to the Chinese village. Jeff hands them the bamboo tube, telling them to read the message inside together later at their feast.
