OK, I have to admit that ever since Cirie said “Jungle Love” the song has been reverberating in my head. Thanks Cirie!
Individuals who say they are fans of Survivor, and that they know how to play the game always intrigue me. These people are so confident of undertaking the challenges that they think they are invincible. The “Fans , or so they are called, seem to be utterly clueless about the schematics of the game. For example, their original shelter was so crudely constructed that it could hardly be a shelter. Despite winning flint, they almost wore it down before finally starting a mediocre fire. The discombulation of this team was so apparent during Thursday’s episode that it was almost painful to watch. Did they never hear of the phrase, “too many chiefs and not enough Indians?” They chattered like a bunch of magpies about building the shelter, starting fire, getting water and not a darn thing was accomplished until way too much later.
My question is this: if you knew you had applied to be on Survivor, and there was the slightest chance you may be picked, wouldn’t you bone up on some survival skills? Would you not practice starting fires in your backyard? Would you not start running/walking to build up some stamina? Would you not take some swimming lessons so that you wouldn’t sink to the bottom of the ocean and cry for help? If I’m not mistaken, in one of the earlier Survivor seasons, one of the tribal members did just that – took swimming lessons, so that he could compete in challenges. ? Isn’t it just common sense to be prepared?
I have been watching Survivor since Season 3 and I have never, ever seen two shelters in the same camp. This division of tribal members is so glaringly apparent that it has to be a detriment to team play and survival. Tracy, Chet and Kathy have nominated themselves as the “older” ones in the tribe, and I can’t say as I blame the others for now categorizing them as that. They have effectively marked themselves for ouster and when it happens it will be their own fault(s). Other “older” Survivor contestants have fared well in the game by at least pretending to get along i.e., Yau-Man, Tom Westerman, but these three have sealed their fate already with the rest of their tribe members.
Now, I’m not at all saying the rest of the Airai tribe is a group of pristine, perfect individuals. Joel showed us that his is a power player in his move to have Mary removed. Mikey (who, at his age goes by the name of “Mikey?) was blindsided, Mary was blindsided and all the woman did was show a bit of affection for another tribe member. To say whether this was a good move on Joel’s part remains to be seen, but, frankly, if I were a member of his tribe, I’d be more than a little afraid of him. He may think he is in charge at the moment, but others before him have thought so also. Joel did make one correct statement in that he doesn’t care – he doesn’t know these people and this is a game of deception. He is right on with that. This is not a game of making friends; it is a game for a bounty of a million dollars. Joel’s attitude may get him far in the game, but his people skills need to be honed a bit. Barking at Kathy about whom to vote off surely didn’t win him any Brownie points with her or her little alliance of three.
