So You Think You Can Dance: Technique, Performance, Likeability - Here's How They Rate
Commentary and Recap by RTVC Staff Writer Jillian Domings
June 25, 2009
This Wednesday on So You Think You Can Dance, the top 16 dancers took the stage again for America. Last week's results show left me with mixed emotions. I was more than happy to see Max go, but was sad to see Ashley cut. Hopefully this week I will agree more with the judges.

We begin with our usual opening- Cat introducing the dancers one by one. Kayla stands out for me most this week. Her pirouettes into the turning extension was gorgeous. One thing that seemed odd to me was that Ade was a bit of a copy cat. After Brandon showed off his standing back flip, Ade had to do the same exact move. Just a weird choice.

Joining Nigel and Mary on the judging panel this week is Toni Basil. Toni tells us how she will soon be honored with a Living Legend of Hip Hop Award. She tells us that one of her main goals as a dancer was for hip hop and street dancing to be recognized as a valid form of dance when compared to more classical styles. She must be really proud to see her dream become a reality.

Before each couple dances, they will tell America what profession they would choose if they could not be a dancer.

Once again I will be giving each couple a score out of 30. They will receive 10 points for technique, 10 for performance and 10 for likeability. If one dancer performs better than another, or has better technique than the other, I will give an average score. And just so you know, I don't always agree with the judges. And so, on with this week's show!

Karla & Jonathan- By My Side by Jadakiss
Karla begins by telling us that if she was not a dancer she would be a journalist. Jonathan tells us his dream is to be an acrobat in Cirque Du Soleil. He also tells us that he used to be a gymnast. What is it with gymnasts who think they can dance?

This week they will be doing a Dave Scott Hip Hop routine.

Overall, their routine is a bit of a snooze and I am so over these two. First we sit through 20 seconds of fluff before they even start dancing and when they do start, they don't even look that good. For the most part, Karla held her own. Her movements were clean and almost hip hop.

Jonathan on the other hand looked terrible. As Karla pointed out in their intro, he really is too much of a pretty boy to pull off the rawness of hip hop. As a couple, the routine was not together and overall it was very amateurish looking.

Technique- 6.5
Performance- 7
Likeability- 7.5
Total- 21 out of 30

Nigel says the routine lacked excitement, danger and chemistry. Mary says the routine was not synchronized and that Jonathan was not in touch with his inner gangster. Toni says the two didn't work as a unit and it was not hit hard enough.

Asuka & Vitolio- Heartbreaker by Pat Benatar
We begin by learning that Asuka.....
