So You Think You Can Dance: Weak and Amateurish Performances Send Two More Home
Commentary and Recap by RTVC Staff Writer Jillian Domings
June 26, 2009
This Thursday on So You Think You Can Dance, the top 16 was cut to 14. Wednesday night's show was not the most exciting we've seen; in fact, in my opinion only one couple continued to show progress and that was Jeanette and Brandon. The others were either adequate or below average.

Before the results show I had dinner with my mom and told her that I thought Asuka & Vitolio and Karla & Jonathan would definitely be in the bottom three. I also said it didn't matter who was down there with them- some combination of these four would be going home. Both of these couples had extremely weak routines and both were very amateur looking on Wednesday night.

Thursday night's show opens with a group dance to I Know You Want Me by Pitbull. The routine is choreographed by Dmitri along with Tabitha & Napoleon. It is without question one of the worst group routines in the history of the show. The opening close ups were too long and the part with the girls dancing in the water was terrible. Insert cliché rap video comment here.

If I had to say something positive about the routine it would be that the choreography was clearly centered on Kayla and Brandon. I said on Wednesday night that these are by far my favorite two dancers. They are also the two best technical dancers in my opinion. During the girls group part Kayla was front and center. Brandon was then front and center for the guys. So that was nice to see.

Cat then introduces the judges and Nigel talks at some length about three very sad deaths in the entertainment world this week- Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson. I was never really a fan of a Michaels, especially when considering everything that has surrounded him in recent years. But for now I will respectfully decline to comment any further.

After the first break, five couples are center stage to learn who is safe and who is in the bottom three. They are Asuka & Vitolio, Jeanette & Brandon, Randi & Evan, Jeanine & Philip, and Melissa & Ade. My predictions from Wednesday night's results show are pretty much true. Jeanette & Brandon breeze through again, Evan and Philip continue to be crowd favorites, and America continues to adore Melissa & Ade. Asuka & Vitolio are in the bottom three.

Evan is definitely not my most favorite dancer however he has done just enough to stay afloat. Plus I love Randi so I am fine with them sticking around for now. Philip however is another story. His lack of technique is more apparent than ever and he's not a great performer. I think as soon as America slips and puts him in the bottom, the judges will cut him quickly. If Jeanine were not partnered with Philip, she would be long gone.

After another break, the last three couples are on the stage. Karla & Jonathan are recapped first and they are told they are also in the bottom three. That leaves Caitlin & Jason and Kayla & Kupono. Thankfully, America votes through Kayla & Kupono and they are safe. Caitlin & Jason will have to dance for their lives but unless they stand on the stage and do nothing, they should be safe.

We then see a performance.....
