So You Think You Can Dance: Two Unanimous Decisions And Two More Are Gone
Commentary and Recap by RTVC Staff Writer Jillian Domings
July 3, 2009
This Thursday on So You Think You Can Dance, two more dancers were cut leaving us with a top 12.

Wednesday night's performance show went fairly well; although I didn't appreciate that the dance styles were handed out instead of randomly drawn from a hat. The judges already get to choose the results, should they really get to choose the dance styles as well?

Thursday night's show opens with a group number to Brand New Day from The Wiz. The dance, choreographed by Tyce Diorio, is probably my favorite group dance so far this season. The beginning started out a bit too chaotic and all over the place but the ending was great. The choreography was fun and inventive and the performance was great.

After introducing the judges, Cat immediately gets down to business and brings the first two couples center stage. Karla & Vitolio receive the critiques from their Quickstep first, followed by Randi & Evan's critiques for their Broadway routine.

I actually thought both of these couples deserved to be in the bottom three however, Randi & Evan are once again safe. I am fine with this for now as I like Randi well enough. I really do not believe though that Evan should be in the top 10. He is just too weak of a dancer.

Next to take the stage is a trio consisting of Jeanette & Brandon, Kayla & Kupono and Melissa & Ade. Jeanette & Brandon receive critiques for their Cha Cha first and for the fourth week in a row, are very quickly told they are safe. This couple should have no problem cruising into the top 10.

That leaves Kayla & Kupono and Melissa & Ade. I have a strong emotional attachment to both Kayla & Kupono but for some reason, they are once again in the bottom three. I find Kupono so interesting and intriguing and Kayla is just phenomenal. She seriously has the goods to win the whole show.

Melissa and Ade are the exact opposite for me. I have no emotional connection to them at all and I find them both to be completely boring. I would have gladly said goodbye to them this week.

That leaves our last two couples- Jeanine & Philip and Caitlin & Jason. After receiving their critiques from Wednesday night's show, thankfully, it is Jeanine and Philip in the bottom three. Even though they did fairly well last night, I would like to think that like me, America did not think it was fair for them to draw Hip Hop, Philip's one and only confident dance style, for the second time out of four weeks.

Before the bottom six contestants dance for their life, we are treated to a guest performance by the Complexions Contemporary Ballet. The two dancers are simply stunning. They are both incredibly strong yet graceful dancers. I'm not sure I enjoyed their matching hot pants and sports bra, especially on the male dancer, but they were still a joy to watch.

It is now time for the dreaded dance off. Each dancer will have a meager 30 seconds to prove to the judges why they deserve to stay for at least another week.

Up first is Karla who is dancing.....
