So You Think You Can Dance 6: Did The Voters Get It Right?
Recap by Jenny Lane

All tapped out.
Previously on So You Think You Can Dance, the top twenty dancers took the stage. Due to the World Series, the judges, not the viewers, decided which dancers were sent home. After the first week of competition, the judges sent home Ariana and Brandon (a last minute replacement for Billy Bell, who withdrew due to an illness).
With Ariana and Brandon gone, their partners Pauline and Peter were paired in the second week of competition. Again, the World Series took the power away from the viewers, and the judges decided who went home. The bottom four dancers were Noelle, Bianca, Victor and Phillip. Much to Nigel’s dismay, two of the three tappers in the competition were let go, and we said goodbye to Bianca and Phillip. Their partners, Channing and Peter, will now be paired with each other.
This week, the remaining eight couples will take the stage. With the World Series behind us, the viewers will finally get the chance to vote.
After the usual introductions, Cat struts (literally) onstage. Tonight, she’s wearing a short black dress with long sleeves and a high neck. The material has kind of a snakeskin meets sci-fi look to it. The very ends of the sleeves go from black to gold, and so does the bottom of the skirt. Her hair is pulled back on top and on the sides, and she’s wearing super high heeled black strappy shoes.
As usual, the judges are Adam, Mary and Nigel. It looks like they’ve finally removed the empty chair next to Nigel that was supposedly waiting for Paula Abdul.
The first couple to dance tonight is Karen and Kevin. This week, they’re doing the Hustle. But first, we see a clip of Karen talking about auditioning with her husband Matt. They both went to Vegas, but Matt didn’t make it to the end of Vegas week. Karen tells us that they had been having problems for a while, and they are now getting a divorce. She says “physically, emotionally, it’s very draining, but I’m staying positive.” Kevin talks about performing overseas, and how his travels have helped him create his own unique style. Obviously Karen got 90% of this couple’s airtime.
Back to the Hustle, which is choreographed tonight by Maria Torres (no Doriana?). In this piece, the girl is going to be asking the boy to dance. They’re dancing to “Come to Me” by France Joli. Karen and Kevin are dressed in what looks more like Samba attire than Disco, in shades of red and pink. Kevin is wearing red pants, a pink shirt, and a dark vest. Karen is wearing a short, strappy, tight red dress with a little fringe hanging off the bottom.
The beginning of Karen and Kevin’s Hustle is slow and a little sleepy. As the tempo picks up, the dancing does too, but not as much as I expected. They do all of the predictable disco spins and lifts, but it’s not as impressive as I had hoped for.
Adam says “you guys.....
