The Amazing Race 12
Nathan and Jennifer Were Philiminated
Commentary by By Eileen Witker

I would be willing to bet that I was not the only viewer who said “YAY!!” at the end of Sunday night’s Amazing Race when Nathan and Jennifer were philiminated. I cannot for the life of me fathom why couples go on the race to test relationships. If the race were a true test of their relationship then they need to hang it up now. Immediately.
This past weekend, I had an opportunity to explain good sportsmanship to my eight-year-old granddaughter. Obviously, Jennifer’s grandmother never did the same for her. This young woman whined, moaned, and complained her way throughout the Race, in addition to berating and yelling at her partner Nathan. Now, I am not at all absolving Nathan; he said some pretty mean things to her during the race and, in the beginning, I thought he was the nasty one. I was wrong. The poor guy was only defending himself. Good-bye Nathan and Jennifer – if you are still together, as some sites are reporting, then you deserve each other.
I was thrilled that TK and Rachel caught up and were not eliminated. This team has been consistently calm and kind to each other. There was only a minor blow-up on Sunday regarding the Floating Garden location, but they took it in stride and didn’t harp on their mistake. TK and Rachel just keep going and going. And, despite Jennifer’s claim that TK and Rachel don’t work hard, I think we all know that they do. For them to have been three hours behind and have to complete a U-Turn and still make it to the final three says a lot about this team. I would be happy to see them win.
I would also be happy to see Nicolas and Don win. Don has proven that age is not a deterrent on the Amazing Race – although I do admit there haven’t been so many physical challenges as there are when there are younger racers. I am of Don’s generation and it is doing my heart good to see an “oldster” hanging in there with the younger ones and being in the final three. Some of my friends and I would love to see an “oldster’s” Amazing Race with every team over the age of 50. Somehow I just don’t think that’s ever going to happen.
Ron and Christina seem to have finally found an even keel in their relationship – again – another team testing their relationship while running the race. I think this father-daughter duo may have found how to deal with each other, however, I have noticed Christina being a little snippier than usual in the last two episodes. I think, though, that snippiness may be justified after all the browbeating she took from Ron early on. My sixth sense is in high gear where this duo is concerned, though, and I think Christina can give as good as she gets. I also think that creative editing is keeping us from seeing that. I am not sure I really want this team to win, but if they do, I wouldn’t be as unhappy as I would be if Nathan and Jennifer had won.
I think most fans of the Amazing Race will be happy with Sunday’s finale. All three remaining teams have worked hard and long and have weathered setbacks, missed flights, hard roadblocks and U-turns. With the exception of the early discord between Ron and Christina, all three teams have been respectful and courteous to each other and kind to the other teams. Of course, I won’t mention Christina telling the ticket agent to not sell one to Nathan and Jennifer – I would have done the same, though, to end Jennifer’s whining and complaining. Or to aggravate her even further. Tee Hee.
I certainly have a favorite for Sunday’s finale, but just don’t want to jinx the team by saying who it is. Let’s all tune in and enjoy one show without the bickering and cantankerous Jennifer! If my favorite team, Kynt and Vyxsin are out of the running then I want…whoops! Almost said it!
