The Amazing Race 12: Talk Nice To The Camel
Commentary by Eileen Witker
November 20, 2007
The promotions for this week's Amazing Race really teased us viewers. I don't think I am the only person who thought that Daddy Ron could have been leaving the race. And I am probably not the only who would not have shed a tear had that happened.

Now, I was prepared to really like this father/daughter team. I think running this race with one of your children would be the ultimate fun time and a perfect time to really bond and work together. Daddy Ron destroyed this illusion; at least for this season's race. I am going to not be so harsh on him, though, because friends have told me just how painful a hernia is, and he did persevere and race with Christina. He did a bit of complaining, which was alright and he did seem to let up on her this episode. He admitted, at the pit stop, that he'd been a bit harsh (a bit?) on her and was going to watch himself. So, he's on thin ice with me right now. I thought it quite funny when Christina told him to stop singing to the camel and that when the camel snorted at him; she told him it was camel language for "shut up." Good for her.

Before leaving the pit stop, Jason told us that sometimes he compares Lorena to The Exorcist. How true did those words come to be? Now I have to admit that milking a camel is not my idea of a fun time; however, sometimes you've gotta do what you gotta do. Lorena was terrified of the camel; something I thought was quite funny. We saw handlers there; nothing was going to happen to her. I wonder why she didn't notice that the other teams who were talking nicely to the camels were getting more milk and completing the task. Her screams scared me and I wasn't even there. Holy Moly! There are a lot of things in life that are going to be frustrating and if this is how she acts about milking a camel, she is in big trouble!

The blondes are making me wonder if they are a bit too blonde to be on the race. They complained that they didn't look as good as they'd like to and on the train to Bingo they were horrified about the aroma and the flies. The Sisters even commented that the blondes didn't seem "comfortable." Hey, it's a race for a million dollars - there's not going to be a stylist accompanying the teams. And, perhaps when one is noticing barren landscape and poverty one should be grateful for what one has instead of making jokes about your teammate's new perfume. They also had meltdowns during the camel milking task and perhaps if more time had been spent milking that crying about it, the task would have been completed sooner.

Nasty Nathan and Jennifer seemed to back off on the bickering this episode. Nasty even commented that he was lucky to be on the race. There were some snarky little comments between these two, but nothing like last week. Jennifer was doing some yelling at Nasty during the camel-milking endeavor, but all the teams were yelling at their partners. I'm sure that made the task so much easier. I noticed that the teams that remained cool and calm finished the task easily; those screaming at each other didn't.

The Sisters, Marianna and Julia, noted that they were happy to be going to Africa, but, thanks to editing, we never did find out why. They were very kind to Lorena after they left the camel milking task, telling her to try the camel with a baby, which proved to be right move and Lorena finished the task.

The Goths were just.....
