The Amazing Race 12: And The Winner's Are
Finale; Recap by Cari C.
January 21, 2008
We had to wait longer than expected but when TAR came back, it did so with a bang. This season has been great. The racers, the locations, it was well worth the wait. Hopefully we won't have to wait so long to see the next instalment. Before we move onto the next season though, we still have the final episode of this season. For once the final thee racers are all teams I enjoy. At this point, I would be okay if any of three teams won. I think if I had to choose I would prefer it if TK and Rachel or Nick and Don won but I would be okay with Ron and Chris too. Ron has come a long way this season and he and Chris have done well especially the last few legs. I am really excited about tonight so let's jump right in.
Ron and Chris who were the first to arrive to the Pit Stop at 9:47 PM are the first to depart at 9:47 am. Teams must now fly 4500 miles to their final destination city of Anchorage, Alaska. When they land, they must make their way to 6th Avenue Outfitters and pick up the necessary gear and the next clue. At 10:30 am TK and Rachel head out followed by Nick and Don at 10:37 am. All three teams head to the airport and find seats on the same China Air flight. Ron and Chris get a leg up on the others by getting access to the lounge and looking up the address for the shop in Alaska. All three teams board the flight and take off for Alaska. Once in Alaska, the three teams head off the plane and race to find a taxi. All three teams find a taxi but Ron and Chris get a bit of a leg up on the others and end up arriving at the store first. They head inside and get their bag and the next clue. Teams must now make their way to the waterfront and find ship creek boat launch and their next clue. The two other teams find the shop too and head off trying to catch up to Ron and Chris. Nick and Don however make a crucial mistake when they forget to pick up their bag and head off to find the next clue.
At the boat launch, Ron and Chris arrive and discover a Road Block. Teams must choose between two tasks commonly performed by the fishermen of Alaska. The choice, Cut the Cod or Grab the Crab. In Cut the Cod, teams must cut thru several fifty pound cod and search for a miniature clue hidden inside one of the fish. In Grab the Crab, teams jump into the hold of a boat swarming with over 500 live crabs. They must search thru the crab to find one marked with race colors. Ron and Chris decide to cut up the cod. They head down to the work stations and quickly get to work. Ron decides to do the cutting and quickly get to work. After cutting open the first fish, Chris begins to search and finds the clue. Teams must travel sixty miles by taxi to a boat landing. They must then take a high speed boat ride up the river to 20-mile Glacier. What teams don't know is that will have to climb up the face of the Glacier to get their next clue. Ron and Chris head out. They find a taxi and race towards the boat landing.
Back on the road, TK and Rachel get lost trying to find the boat launch which allows Nick and Don to get there first. After reading the clue, Nick and Don realize they forgot their bag. They turn around and head back which allows TK and Rachel to arrive at the boat launch and start the crab detour. Nick and Don get back to the store. They grab their bag and head back to the Detour. TK and Rachel meanwhile are having trouble with their Detour. The crabs are pinching them so they continue to talk about switching tasks. While they go back and forth about switching, Nick and Don arrive back and decide to cut up fish. Just as they get started, TK finally finds the marked crab and he and Rachel head off to catch up with Ron and Chris. Don and Nick quickly cut up their fish and get their clue. They head off to try and make up some time. |
