Amazing Race: Siblings Soar, Love Triumphs, Frats Splat
Finale Recap by Cari C.
December 8, 2008
I have never been really good at picking reality winners. I am one of those people who think that people who deserve to win should win. I know, it is not a realistic notion but I am a big sappy female and I cannot help myself. This season I am not really thrilled with the finalists but what are you going to do. We are left with three teams: Nick and Star, Tina and Ken, and Andrew and Dan. All three teams made it here in different way. Two of the final teams actually finished last but lucky for them they were non-elimination rounds so they were given the chance to claw their way back. Instead of going home, they were able to stay in the game and make it to the final three. So with the final three set, tonight is the night to find out who will take home the million.

So here we are again. It is the final start to the final leg of this race. Once again Nick and Star the Wonder Twins are heading out first. They get to depart at 10:56 pm. Teams must now fly over 5000 miles to their last destination, Portland, Oregon. Once they land they will need to make their way to Tilikum Christain Camp and Retreat Center to find their next clue. The two head to the airport and as usual they try to find the best flight. They arrive quickly and head straight for the Internet. They locate several flights so now all they have to do is pick the fastest one. They should be in no hurry. I mean the frat boys don't even leave the Pit Stop until 2:28 am while Tina and Ken don't head out until 3:30 am. Since there are just not that many flights leaving Russia to Portland, all three teams end up on the same flight to Portland through Frankfurt, Germany. This means all three teams are once again on equal footing but I am still giving the upper hand to Nick and Star. They just seem to be unbeatable. I mean instead of resting while waiting on the plane, the two get back on the Internet. They take the time to look up the website to the place they will be going to as soon as they land in Portland. It could really give them a slight advantage when they land.

In Portland, the flight lands and all the teams race to find a taxi. As usual the Frat boys are last while Nick and Star are first out. Being out first however does not mean you will get to the clue box first. Nick and Stars driver gets lost so Tina and Ken arrive first and open up their last Detour. In this Detour, teams must choose between two activities that improve balance and reduce the fear of people working in logging, Oregon's most dangerous industry. The choice the racers have is High and Dry or Low and Wet. In High and Dry, teams must climb 30 feet up a tree and traverse a 40 foot log and then leap through the air to retrieve one half of their next clue. If either team member falls off without grabbing the clue they must start over. In Low and Wet, teams choose one of the floating log bridges and walk 850 feet across the water to a clue waiting on shore. Tina and Ken decide to do High and Dry. The two head off just as Nick and Star arrive. The frat boys on the over hand are lost on the road. Apparently their driver can't figure out where they are. Tina and Ken get started on the task. While they start putting on the safety equipment, Nick and Star arrive. Ken heads up first and quickly finishes his task. Nick is second leaving Tina and Star to fight it out to see who finishes first. Star easily beats Tina since she seems to be more worried about her helmet than she is about getting the clue. Star gets the clue and heads back to Nick. The two put their clue together and figure out where to go. Teams must now travel by taxi to The Bridge of the Gods. Once there they will have to take a ride on a zip line 2000 feet to the island below to receive their next clue. Nick and Star head off leaving Tina to worry about her helmet.

On the road, the frat boys have borrowed their drivers phone and have called the camp and found directions. They are now going in the right direction. Tina finally gets over her helmet and finishes the task. The producers made i t seem like Nick and Star had a better lead but in reality, they are neck and neck with Tina and Ken. The frat boys sadly are way behind. They just arrived at the Detour. They choose to do High and Dry and get to work. I must give it to them, these two never give up but at this point it will take a miracle for these two to win. Of course, I said the same thing would have to occur for them to make the final three. Under normal circumstances, I would count these two out but I am just not ready to count these two out just yet. Back on the road, Nick and Star missed the turn to the bridge which allowed Tina and Ken to pull ahead. They arrive at the bridge first and get ready to ride the zip line. The frat boys on the other hand have just finished up and are just now heading to the bridge. While they try to find the correct route, Tina and Ken get suited up and ride the zip line. Nick and Star are right behind so Tina and Ken are going to have to get with it if they plan to win this thing.

Tina and Ken finish the zip line and they get the next clue. This is the big one. Each team must answer one question from each leg of the race. Each team will have to choose one of the game boards. Each board has ten game pieces representing a leg of the race. Working together in numerical order, the teams will remove a game piece revealing a symbol underneath. The symbol will be either: route info, Roadblock, Detour, or Pit Stop. They will then enter a field containing one hundred and fifty Amazing Race clue boxes. They must then find the picture that corresponds to their symbol. Once they have found all ten pictures they will receive their next clue. Tina and Ken get to work and they are not having very good luck. Nick and Star waste no time getting down to the island to join them. They don't seem to be doing much better. This could literally take forever. It is going to come down to who has the better memory. This whole thing is a big combination game of memory and concentration. While the two teams continue, the frat boys are lost yet again. After what seems like forever, Nick and Star finally finish and they get the next clue. Teams must now travel downtown by taxi to the Portland building. Once there they must find the green dinosaur located across the street. They will find the next clue next to the dinosaur. The two head off but Tina and Ken finish and once again they are right behind them.

In the taxis both teams try.....
