The Amazing Race: Sam and Dan Regain The Top Spot!
Leg 7 Rankings by RTVC Staff Writer James Kuz
November 2, 2009
All eyes are on the World Series this week, but we can’t forget about the Amazing Race! According to articles tonight’s episode will feature the revealing of a personal secret of one of the teams, which most likely means that Sam and Dan will finally tell the other teams that they’re gay. If so, I can’t wait to see the look on Maria and Tiffany’s faces.

Last week a six story waterslide drop proved to be too much for Mika and Canaan, which got them eliminated. Looking ahead to this week I think that Maria and Tiffany, the globetrotters, and Gary and Matt could be in trouble, but who knows, there could be a shocker.

Here’s how things panned out for the teams this week:

Sam and Dan- At the airport they came out to the rest of the teams. When at the roadblock Sam worked with Meghan to finish, but tells Tiffany the answer while heading back down. They arrive at the detour first, where they either have to play golf or learn a dance. Eventually they choose golf and actually get through it pretty easily making them first place at the pitstop.

Meghan and Cheyne- They depart first and figure out that they’re traveling to Amsterdam. At the airport the flight doesn’t depart til midnight. In Amsterdam they get to the clue first and have to travel to Martinitoren. At the roadblock they have to count the number of bells in the building. They arrive right after Sam and Dan at the detour and choose to golf, but have a little trouble since Meghan hates to golf. Eventually they get the hang of it and finish leading them to a second place finish.

Flight Time and Big Easy- In Amsterdam they finished the roadblock second to last. They choose to dance at the detour, and actually don’t do too bad. Eventually they finish, but don’t look too thrilled eating the fish. At pitstop they look ridiculous and came in third.

Gary and Matt- Matt managed to finish the roadblock first. They chose to do the dance at the detour, but eventually switch to golf after they found out they would have to eat fish. Golf doesn’t turn out too bad for them and finish fourth.

Brian and Ericka- At Amsterdam they had trouble starting their car. Ericka is eventually the last one at the roadblock and is the only one to get the number of bells wrong. While everyone’s at the detour Ericka still can’t count the correct number of bells, which makes her start crying. Finally she gets it and they choose to dance at the detour. While going there they don’t realize they have to use bikes and start blowing up at each other. Eventually they get to dance and finish pretty easily. They arrive fifth at the pitstop, but acquire a thirty minute penalty for not riding bikes to the detour. Maria and Tiffany don’t arrive so they do end up fifth.

Maria and Tiffany- At the roadblock Tiffany had to do it once again, while Maria sat back again. Once again they get lucky when Sam tells them the number of bells at the roadblock. Like Gary and Matt, they choose to dance at the detour, but switch to golf after having trouble hitting a bell. Things didn’t get much better with the golf, which turned out to be a struggle for them so they switch back to the dance. They try to hit the bell again, but end up crying leading them back to golf once again. This time they don’t fair much better and end up quitting.

Maria and Tiffany weren’t able to feed off anyone this week, which led them to an all time low and ended up quitting the race. I felt really bad for them, but they went out fighting.

We’re down to the final five and the competition’s looks wide open! Here’s how the teams rank:
Dan and Sam
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 2
Sam and Dan are back on top once again! This week they came out to the other teams and pushed past all the other teams. With the newfound confidence that we saw this week they have definitely solidified a place in the top three in my opinion. Every week they’re consistently great and have managed to be first at the pitstop twice now, which isn’t too shabby.

Meghan and Cheyne
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 1
The leaders of the rankings have finally fallen. After weeks on top Meghan and Cheyne finally were beat out by another team, but still stayed strong to finish second. I have said that Sam and Dan are definitely going to be in the finals, and I feel the same way with these two. They’ve been on top for most of the race and could definitely be right back in first next week.

Flight Time and Big Easy
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 5
I felt like Flight Time and Big Easy were pretty lucky this week. They were the last team to depart and were behind for the beginning of the leg. What saved them this week was that the other teams weren’t able to finish the detours as quick as these two did. I’m still on the fence, though, about them. They seem to fluctuate up and down the rankings each week, and I don’t know if they are consistent enough to make it to the end. Even though they’re rank third, they could be the next ones eliminated due to the fact that a lot of the weak teams have left and the remaining teams are really competitive.

Gary and Matt
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 4
I think of Gary and Matt as the wild card team this season. At the beginning of the season I don’t think that anyone would have pegged these two to make it this far, but they’re still standing. I do believe that there are a lot of better teams that will probably make the finals over them, but who knows? Every week they surprise me so we’ll have to see.

Brian and Ericka
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 3
This leg of the race definitely wasn’t Brian and Ericka’s shining moment. I think this week was their worst showing yet, but like I say every week they fight back no matter what. They could have easily have given up after Ericka took forever on the roadblock, but they came back and ended up staying in the race. Even though I ranked them last, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the finals. The other teams shouldn’t count these two out because they have a fire in their eyes to make it the end.

Maria and Tiffany
Philiminated
I knew this day was coming for Maria and Tiffany. They have been relying too much on other teams to get by and this week nobody was there to help forcing them to eventually quit. I’m glad to see, though, that they fought til the end.

Mika and Canaan
Philiminated
It’s a shame that they lost because Mika couldn’t go down the waterslide, but time is everything on this race. They could’ve easily escaped being last, but the globetrotters caught up to them and surged ahead. I feel bad for them because they seem like nice people, but they just couldn’t get things done fast enough to keep up with the other teams.

Lance and Keri
Philiminated
I’m so glad to see Lance and Keri finally leave the race. All they did the whole time was bicker and yell at each other. I don’t know how Keri is going to cope with Lance for the rest of her life.

Zev and Justin
Philiminated
I’m so disappointed to see Zev and Justin go. They arrived first at the pitstop, but the passport curse struck again and I’m sad to see it take them out of the race.

Marcy and Ron
Philiminated
I knew that Marcy and Ron weren’t the strongest team, but I really liked them as people. Unfortunately the teams are really fit this season and they just couldn’t keep up.

Garrett and Jessica
Philiminated
Garrett and Jessica were both very competitive people. Unfortunately that’s what got in the way of them continuing on in the race. In the last challenge Garrett got on Jessica nerves and wound up finishing last.

Eric and Lisa
Philiminated
I feel bad for Eric and Lisa as they fell victim to the first ever elimination at the starting line. I can’t imagine how it must feel to not get a chance to compete on the race after being so close.
