The Amazing Race 16: The War Is Over And So Is Your Race
Leg 5 Commentary and Recap by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Jenny Lane
March 16, 2010

Two weeks in a row.
Previously on The Amazing Race, the eight remaining teams traveled from Argentina to Hamburg, Germany.

When the teams reached an intersection in the game, they were forced to join forces with each other for a bungee jump challenge.

Dan helped Brandy with her fear of heights. In perhaps a bad move, Joe’s already injured knee flared up after the jump and got worse.

As for Jeff and Jordan, he took his frustrations out on their cab driver.

Louie and Michael showed that consuming is one of their strong suits. They ate a plate of sauerkraut, downed a huge glass of beer, and got to the pit stop in first place.

Bickering Big Brother couple Jordan and Jeff came in last place, but were then told that it was a non elimination leg of the race.

We rejoin the race at the pit stop in Hamburg, Germany. During the pit stop, all teams boarded a bus in Hamburg to an unknown destination. Interesting, I don’t remember this ever happening before – leaving before a pit stop is officially over, and to an unknown destination no less.

On the bus, Joe is icing his knee. The other teams are keeping an eye on him, but Joe swears that he can still outrun the others. Louie and Michael think Joe is overconfident, and they don’t like that.

The bus travels south to its final destination of Les Monthairons, in France. It is here that the teams will depart at their assigned times. Louie and Michael are first to depart, at 9:35 a.m.

The teams are instructed to drive themselves from Les Monthairons to the town of Ste Menehould. From there, they have to find a bakery called Boulangerie Defantaine. There, they will find a baguette which contains their next clue. The clue in the baguette reads “Find La Main de Massiges. Note: when you arrive, park your car in the designated area.”

Louie and Michael meet a postal worker, who draws them a map to their next location. Pleased with themselves, they laugh and head on their way.

The second team to depart is Steve and Allie, at 9:55 a.m. They’re followed by Joe and Heidi in third place, at 10:00 and Jet and Cord in fourth place at 10:36.

In the car, Jeff and Cord discuss what a baguette might be. The guys pronounce it “bag-wet,” and they guess that it must be a pastry of some sort.

Carol and Brandy are fifth to depart, at 10:44. Dan and Jordan are sixth, at 10:57

Louie and Michael have stopped their car and are now following the smell of fresh bread. They have found the right bakery and baker. After ask for and receiving the baguette it takes them a minute to realize that the clue is inside the bread. Once they find the clue, they get their instructions to go to La Main de Massiges to find their next clue.

Steve and Allie reach.....
